The web API can now send binary data with filename and mime type specified, support SSL torrents, and allow to download .torrent file using search plugin.<\/p>\n<p>For Linux, qBittorrent 5.0.0 now supports systemd power management. For Windows 10+, it uses Fusion style, which has better compatibility with dark mode. And, the app in macOS now displays download\/upload speed in dock icon. For the most recent 5.1.0 release, there are <b>4 choices<\/b> besides building from source:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>AppImage<\/b>, universal Linux package format. It&#8217;s portable and no installation required.<\/li>\n<li><b>Flatpak<\/b>, universal Linux package format runs in sandbox.<\/li>\n<li><b>Snap<\/b>, another universal Linux package format runs in sandbox.<\/li>\n<li><b>Ubuntu PPA<\/b>, contains native <code>.deb<\/code> packages, but for <b>Ubuntu 24.04 only<\/b>!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Option 1: qBittorrent AppImage<\/h3>\n<p>The software website provides Linux package through AppImage format that works in most Linux. So far, it <b>only supports <code>amd64<\/code> (AMD\/Intel)<\/b> CPU platform.<\/p>\n<p>To download the AppImage, just go to the link below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qbittorrent.org\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download qBittorrent AppImage<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Then, go to &#8220;Downloads&#8221; folder, right-click on that AppImage file, click open the &#8220;Properties&#8221; dialog and enable &#8220;Executable as Program&#8221; permission. Finally, right-click and select &#8220;Run&#8221; the file will launch the BitTorrent client.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-appimage.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47356\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-appimage-700x469.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-appimage-700x469.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-appimage-300x201.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-appimage-768x514.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-appimage.webp 1190w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>NOTE: Ubuntu since 22.04 does NOT support AppImage out-of-the-box. To enable it, just open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run the command below to install the required library:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install libfuse2<\/pre>\n<h3>Option 2: qBittorrent Flatpak Package<\/h3>\n<p>qBittorrent also provides official Linux package through <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flatpak<\/a>. It also works in most Linux and runs in sandbox environment, and so far support <b>both <code>amd64<\/code> (AMD\/Intel) and <code>arm64<\/code><\/b> (e.g., Raspberry Pi and Apple Silicon) platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Linux Mint 21\/22 and Fedora 38+ (with 3rd party repository enabled) can search for and install the Flatpak package directly from Software Manager or GNOME Software.<\/p>\n<p>While Ubuntu and other Linux may follow the steps below to install the package:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, Ubuntu &amp; Debian can press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> to open terminal. When it opens, run command to enable flatpak support:\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-45732\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble-700x501.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"437\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble-700x501.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble-300x215.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble-768x550.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/apt-flatpak-noble.webp 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Then, run command to add the <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flathub repository<\/a> which hosts the software package.\n<pre>flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo<\/pre>\n<p>Other Linux can follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/flatpak.org\/setup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official guide<\/a> to enable Flatpak support.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/flathub-add.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47289\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/flathub-add-700x257.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/flathub-add-700x257.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/flathub-add-300x110.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/flathub-add.webp 706w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Finally, install qBittorrent as Flatpak package by running command in terminal:\n<pre>flatpak install flathub org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent<\/pre>\n<p>As it runs in sandbox, it may also download lots of run-time libraries as you see in the screenshot below:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/flatpak-qbittorrent.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47357\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/flatpak-qbittorrent-700x498.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/flatpak-qbittorrent-700x498.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/flatpak-qbittorrent-300x214.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/flatpak-qbittorrent-768x547.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/flatpak-qbittorrent.webp 858w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If this is the first Flatpak package installed on your system, then you may need a <i>log out and back<\/i> in to make app icon visible. Or, you can run the command below to launch from terminal:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak run org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent<\/pre>\n<p>And, to check updates for the package, use command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak update org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent<\/pre>\n<h3>Option 3: Snap package (Unofficial)<\/h3>\n<p>The easiest way to get qBittorrent 5.1.0 in Ubuntu is using the <a href=\"https:\/\/snapcraft.io\/qbittorrent-tak\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Snap package<\/a>. It&#8217;s however an <b>unofficial<\/b> package that runs in sandbox. So far, it supports <code>amd64<\/code>, <code>arm64<\/code>, <code>armhf<\/code>, <code>ppc64el<\/code>, and <code>s390x<\/code> CPU architecture types.<\/p>\n<p>Just launch App Center or Ubuntu Software, then search &amp; install the &#8220;qbittorrent-tak&#8221; package:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/snap-qbittorrent5.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47358\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/snap-qbittorrent5-700x434.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/snap-qbittorrent5-700x434.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/snap-qbittorrent5-300x186.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/snap-qbittorrent5-768x476.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/snap-qbittorrent5.webp 1185w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Option 4: Install qBittorrent 5.1.0 from Ubuntu PPA<\/h3>\n<p>The software has an <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~qbittorrent-team\/+archive\/ubuntu\/qbittorrent-stable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official PPA<\/a> contains native <code>.deb<\/code> packages for Ubuntu, Linux Mint and their based systems.<\/p>\n<p><b>However, qBittorrent 5.0.x does no longer support Qt5 and requires Qt6 &gt;= 6.5.0. And, so far only Ubuntu 24.10 and Ubuntu 25.04 meets the requirements.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. To add the PPA, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:qbittorrent-team\/qbittorrent-stable<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-ppa-oracular.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47643\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-ppa-oracular-700x350.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-ppa-oracular-700x350.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-ppa-oracular-300x150.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-ppa-oracular-768x384.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/qbittorrent-ppa-oracular.webp 876w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n2.
