While Java edition works on Linux, Window, and macOS, the Bedrock edition supports Windows 10 \/ 11, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and mobile (Android, iOS).<\/p>\n<p>Besides cross-playing with more platforms, Minecraft Bedrock also supports playing split screen (up to 4 players) at the same time, marketplace, game controller and touchscreen support, official online servers, parental control, etc features.<\/p>\n<p>While, the Java editions supports independent, user-made additions and changes to the game. See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.minecraft.net\/en-us\/store\/minecraft-java-bedrock-edition-pc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this page<\/a> for official comparison.<\/p>\n<p>And, Minecraft Pi is old discontinued edition developed for Raspberry Pi. An open-source project revived it and make it work on both <code>amd64<\/code> (AMD\/Intel CPUs) and <code>arm64<\/code> platforms. And, it&#8217;s <b>free<\/b>!<\/p>\n<h3>Install Minecraft Java Edition<\/h3>\n<p>The Java edition is available to install in Debian, Ubuntu, and Linux Mint, through native <b>Deb<\/b> package as well as Flatpak and Snap that run in sandbox.<\/p>\n<h4>Option 1: Deb package<\/h4>\n<p>For the official .deb package, simply go to minecraft website via the link button below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/www.minecraft.net\/en-us\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Minecraft<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Then click on &#8220;DEBIAN&#8221; button to download. In case you&#8217;re trying to open the link in Windows or other OSes, try this <a href=\"https:\/\/launcher.mojang.com\/download\/Minecraft.deb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">direct download<\/a> link.<\/p>\n<p>After that, either double-click on the <code>.deb<\/code> package to open with App Center\/Software Install and click install. After launch, it did almost the same thing to the official Deb package, though it&#8217;s unofficial and runs in sandbox!<\/p>\n<h4>Option 3: Flatpak package (unofficial)<\/h4>\n<p>Linux Mint users may prefer the Flatpak package. It&#8217;s another universal Linux package format runs in sandbox, but available to install directly through the Software Manager utility. Though, user needs to enable &#8220;unverified Flatpaks&#8221; first in the <i>Preferences<\/i> dialog.<\/p>\n<p>For Debian and Ubuntu users, press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> to open up a terminal window, and run the 2 commands below one by one to install the package:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, install flatpak daemon package:\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Then, install the game launcher via Flatpak:\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/com.mojang.Minecraft.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Uninstall Minecraft Java Edition<\/h3>\n<p>Depends on which package you installed, uninstall the Deb package by running command in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T):<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove minecraft-launcher<\/pre>\n<p>Or, remove the Snap package using either Ubuntu Software or App Center.<\/p>\n<p>To uninstall the Flatpak package, use command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data com.mojang.Minecraft<\/pre>\n<h3>Install Minecraft Bedrock Edition (Unofficial Launcher)<\/h3>\n<p>The Bedrock edition does NOT officially support Linux, but here&#8217;s an <a href=\"https:\/\/minecraft-linux.github.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unofficial launcher<\/a> for the Android version of the Minecraft Bedrock Edition.<\/p>\n<p>To use the launcher, you must either purchase Minecraft: Bedrock Edition or claim the free Minecraft Trial on google play store. However, there are few downsides, including Xbox live login error, Xbox live friend joining time out and crashes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bedrock-launcher.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-47606\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bedrock-launcher.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"668\" height=\"546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bedrock-launcher.webp 668w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/bedrock-launcher-300x245.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The launcher is available to install through AppImage, Flatpak, and native Deb package. And, below I&#8217;m going to show you how to install the Deb package from its apt repository.<\/p>\n<p><b>1. First, install the key file<\/b> by running the command below in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T):<\/p>\n<pre>sudo wget -qO - https:\/\/minecraft-linux.github.io\/pkg\/deb\/pubkey.gpg | gpg --dearmor | sudo tee \/etc\/apt\/keyrings\/minecraft-linux-pkg.gpg<\/pre>\n<p>The command will download the key file from Github, then dearmor so unreadable, finally install to <code>\/etc\/apt\/keyrings<\/code> directory.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE: The command will print the key file content, unreadable messy code, in terminal window.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-pkg-key.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47607\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-pkg-key-700x190.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-pkg-key-700x190.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-pkg-key-300x81.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-pkg-key.webp 738w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>2. Next, add the apt repository<\/b> by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>echo \"deb [arch=amd64,arm64 signed-by=\/etc\/apt\/keyrings\/minecraft-linux-pkg.gpg] https:\/\/minecraft-linux.github.io\/pkg\/deb <b>noble<\/b> main\" | sudo tee \/etc\/apt\/sources.list.d\/minecraft-linux-pkg.list<\/pre>\n<p>This command will create <code>minecraft-linux-pkg.list<\/code> file under <code>\/etc\/apt\/sources.list.d<\/code> directory, and write content under double quotation marks into that file.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE: In this command you need to replace &#8220;noble&#8221;, according to your Linux Distribution, with:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>jammy<\/b> for Ubuntu 22.04, Linux Mint 21.<\/li>\n<li><b>noble<\/b> for Ubuntu 24.04, Linux Mint 22.<\/li>\n<li><b>oracular<\/b> for Ubuntu 24.10.<\/li>\n<li><b>bookworm<\/b> for Debian 12.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In case you don&#8217;t even know which OS you&#8217;re running, run <code>cat \/etc\/os-release<\/code> command to tell.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-apt-repo.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47608\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-apt-repo-700x400.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-apt-repo-700x400.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-apt-repo-300x171.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-apt-repo-768x439.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/minecraft-apt-repo.webp 802w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>3. If the app icon is not visible, try either log out and back in, or use <code>flatpak run com.thebrokenrail.MCPIReborn<\/code> command to start from terminal.<\/p>\n<p>MCPI-Reborn supports multiple player mode.
