But for version 5.0.3, it&#8217;s a maintenance release that includes primarily bug-fixes, improvements, and translation updates.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb-torrent503.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47758\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb-torrent503-700x403.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb-torrent503-700x403.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb-torrent503-300x173.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb-torrent503-768x442.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb-torrent503-1320x759.webp 1320w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb-torrent503.webp 1521w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since libtorrent alerts are handled asynchronously, there can be obsolete &#8220;state update&#8221; event reached here after torrent was reloaded in libtorrent. In the new release, it just discards such events. And, this change fixed potential app crash when changing locations of multiple torrents.<\/p>\n<p>In Windows, qBittorrent does not read the correct <code>.lnk<\/code> file size (neither the shortcut file as-is, nor the target it points to) when creating torrents. So developer made change to NOT follow (meaning exclude) symlinks when creating torrents on Windows. But, it still follow symlinks on non-Windows operating systems as they don&#8217;t have such issue.<\/p>\n<p>For Web UI, qBittorrent fixed reloading page after login, as well as an issue that it was unable to remove trackers with <code>|<\/code> in their URLs.<\/p>\n<p>Other changes in qBittorrent 5.0.3 include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fix incorrect SQL column definition<\/li>\n<li>RSS: Don&#8217;t add duplicate episodes to previously matched<\/li>\n<li>RSS: Use cached current time when parsing RSS feed<\/li>\n<li>Avoid redundant requests of announce entries from libtorrent<\/li>\n<li>Update Italian translation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Get qBittorrent 5.0.3<\/h3>\n<p>The software website provides the source tarball, as well as Linux, Windows, and macOS packages available to download via the link below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qbittorrent.org\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download qBittorrent<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Linux, it&#8217;s a non-install portable <b>AppImage<\/b>. Though, Ubuntu 22.04 and higher needs to enable AppImage support by installing <code>libfuse2<\/code> package.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb503-appimage.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47759\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb503-appimage-700x506.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb503-appimage-700x506.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb503-appimage-300x217.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb503-appimage-768x555.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/qb503-appimage.webp 1023w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For choice, qBittorrent 5.0.3 is also available in its <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~qbittorrent-team\/+archive\/ubuntu\/qbittorrent-stable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official PPA<\/a> for <b>Ubuntu 24.10.<\/b> The PPA however no longer support 24.04 and earlier because they don&#8217;t match minimum Qt6 requirement.<\/p>\n<p>To add the PPA and install qBittorrent in Ubuntu, use commands:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:qbittorrent-team\/qbittorrent-stable<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo apt install qbittorrent qbittorrent-nox<\/pre>\n<p>For <b>Ubuntu 24.04<\/b> and older, as well as most other Linux, this client is also available as <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flatpak package<\/a>, though it runs in sandbox environment.<\/p>\n<p>Just follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/setup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">setup guide<\/a> to enable flatpak support, while Debian\/Ubuntu users can run the single command below in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T):<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<p>Then, use the command below will install the Flatpak package into your system:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<p>If you&#8217;re first time installing a Flatpak app package, then there will be lots of downloads for runtime libraries, and you need a log out and back in to make app icon visible.<\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall qBittorrent<\/h3>\n<p>Depends on which package you installed, uninstall the PPA package by running command in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T):<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove qbittorrent qbittorrent-nox<\/pre>\n<p>Then you may also remove the PPA repository from your system via command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:qbittorrent-team\/qbittorrent-stable<\/pre>\n<p>To remove the Flatpak package, simply run command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent<\/pre>\n<p>Also run <code>flatpak uninstall --unused<\/code> to remove useless run-time libraries.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>qBittorrent, the popular free open-source Qt based BitTorrent client, released version 5.0.3 along with 5.1.0 Beta one day ago on Tuesday.
