This has a lot of fixes mostly with some new features.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Nothing else!<\/p>\n<p>But if you&#8217;re interested in this new e27 release, here are the changes that I summarized by digging through the <a href=\"https:\/\/git.enlightenment.org\/enlightenment\/enlightenment\/commits\/branch\/master\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">source page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_47975\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/about-e27.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47975\" class=\"size-large wp-image-47975\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/about-e27-700x439.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/about-e27-700x439.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/about-e27-300x188.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/about-e27-768x481.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/about-e27.webp 1277w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-47975\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">e27<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>First, e27 <b>reduced CPU usage when gaming with proto\/steam<\/b>. These games change their props all the time, causing e to keep looking things up. The developer updated the code to workaround that can drop CPU usage drastically by about 60-70% or more.<\/p>\n<p>The release also <b>improved battery monitoring<\/b> by filtering out dummy devices that were incorrectly detected as batteries. It now shows CPU frequency and usage in both text and graph.<\/p>\n<p>The gadget\/applet now includes a slide-bar in popup menu, allowing to easily swipe between <b>Powersave<\/b>, <b>Balanced<\/b>, and <b>Performance<\/b> mode. And, there&#8217;s a setting dialog to tune high\/low power levels, and update interval.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/e17-cpufreq.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47977\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/e17-cpufreq-700x448.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/e17-cpufreq-700x448.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/e17-cpufreq-300x192.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/e17-cpufreq-768x492.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/e17-cpufreq.webp 853w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new release also add options to select between different suspend mode. They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Suspend<\/b> (default), sleep to RAM, but keep low power consumption.<\/li>\n<li><b>Hybrid Suspend\/Sleep<\/b>, suspend + hibernate, data finally sleeps to RAM. It will use minimal power for RAM.<\/li>\n<li><b>Suspend then Hibernate<\/b>, suspend then hibernate into disk, finally completely turn off computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The last 2 options are however grayed out in my case. It seems that user need to <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2021\/08\/enable-hibernate-ubuntu-21-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">enable hibernation function<\/a> first.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/suspend-mode.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47978\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/suspend-mode-700x548.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/suspend-mode-700x548.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/suspend-mode-300x235.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/suspend-mode-768x601.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/suspend-mode.webp 836w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other changes in the release are mostly bug-fixes and small improvements. They include ability to build with Wayland only but no X, use new theme element for generic graph, fix wrong scaling issue, as well as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>only save settings when the screen is enabled<\/li>\n<li>update the code tell when the screen option is in interlaced mode<\/li>\n<li>fix that change shelf config like orientation and systray goes blank.<\/li>\n<li>fix notification timeout handling was broken<\/li>\n<li>fix kbd layout set for desklock so it works<\/li>\n<li>Hardcode 16&#215;16 image for wayland logo in case file not found<\/li>\n<li>First attempt at integrating convertible module<\/li>\n<li>Move icon for convertible configuration to screen section<\/li>\n<li>Fix icon and translate string<\/li>\n<li>Introduce version for config<\/li>\n<li>And icon to edj file and enable sync for edje keyboard lock\/unlock<\/li>\n<li>Fix keyboard signals in icon<\/li>\n<li>randr &#8211; add &#8220;use output&#8221; option to use output name (or not)<\/li>\n<li>try fix segv in deskclock locker with passwd + fingerprint at same time<\/li>\n<li>fix bug when removing item from personal apps list<\/li>\n<li>randr config dialog &#8211; dont use x flags if no x supported<\/li>\n<li>no e xsettings if wayland only<\/li>\n<li>randr &#8211; use connectortype to also check if it&#8217;s a lid<\/li>\n<li>fix border adjust handling that caused issue changing Virtual Desktops not keeping window size<\/li>\n<li>ignore (don&#8217;t auto-mount) GTP partition with HintIgnore defined<\/li>\n<li>watchdog &#8211; allow for wd to get a bt and not restart with magic file<\/li>\n<li>randr &#8211; stop repeat scr cfg and ignore off screen pops on scr diff check<\/li>\n<li>No longer use acpid, as e_system does what is does.<\/li>\n<li>support new swallow for gadget cover music control<\/li>\n<li>fonts &#8211; add larger option at 1.2x for finer detail choice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to Get Enlightenment 0.27.0<\/h3>\n<p>The best choice to get the new release is wait! Wait until your Linux distribution updates for it.<\/p>\n<p>If you can&#8217;t wait, then the official download page provides the source tarball as well as how to compile guide.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/www.enlightenment.org\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Enlightenment<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and Ubuntu 24.10, I&#8217;ve upload e27 and efl packages into this <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/e17\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unofficial PPA<\/a>. It&#8217;s however NOT well tested, use at your own risk.<\/p>\n<p>To add the PPA and install Enlightenment, use command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/e17<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo apt install enlightenment<\/pre>\n<p>For the network manager gadget, you may also install the <code>connman-gtk<\/code>. But for cpufreq gadget, I&#8217;m not sure which package need to install. Please leave comment below if you know.<\/p>\n<h3>Uninstall<\/h3>\n<p>For Ubuntu users installed e27 from the PPA mentioned above, either run command below to purge PPA &#038; downgrade e:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/e17<\/pre>\n<p>Or, remove e27 as well as the PPA by running the 2 commands below one by one:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove enlightenment<\/pre>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/e17<\/pre>\n<p>Linux Mint user needs to run <code>sudo apt update<\/code> after adding\/removing a PPA.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Enlightenment, the extremely lightweight window manager and minimal desktop, released new 0.27.0 few days ago.
