It features only some bug-fixes and few minor new features.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus164.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-48719\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus164-700x377.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus164-700x377.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus164-300x162.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus164-768x414.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus164-1320x711.webp 1320w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus164.webp 1506w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribus.net\/scribus-1-6-4-released\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release note<\/a>, Scribus 1.6.4 improved Python scripting support for advanced users, by adding new functions, and a fix to locked layer detection.<\/p>\n<p>It now has the functions for page sizing, bounding boxes for page items, min\/max word kerning. Sadly, I didn&#8217;t find any document about the new functions. If you know, please let me know by leaving comment below.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the scripting changes, the release now avoids custom font encoding when embedding TTF fonts in PDFs. It also updated translation, and fixed the following issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PDF import and export, and checkbox rendering issue on MS Edge.<\/li>\n<li>PDF\/X-4 export issue when attempting to use ICC profile unsuitable for output.<\/li>\n<li>Incorrectly import images as black when importing PDF.<\/li>\n<li>Building issue with newer versions of poppler.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nothing else.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Install Scribus 1.6.4<\/h3>\n<p>The official Scribus packages for Linux, Windows, macOS, as well as the source tarball are available to download at sourceforge.net via the link below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/sourceforge.net\/projects\/scribus\/files\/scribus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Scribus<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Linux, it&#8217;s an AppImage that works in most Linux systems. Just grab it, add executable permission (under file Properties dialog), finally run to launch the application.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus-164-appimg.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-48720\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus-164-appimg-700x471.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus-164-appimg-700x471.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus-164-appimg-300x202.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus-164-appimg-768x517.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/scribus-164-appimg.webp 1153w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For those who prefer the native <code>.deb<\/code> package, I&#8217;ve built the new release page into this <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntuhandbook1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/scribus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unofficial PPA<\/a> for Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, Ubuntu 24.10, and Ubuntu 25.04 on <code>amd64<\/code> and <code>arm64\/armhf<\/code> platforms.<\/p>\n<p>To add the PPA and install Scribus from it, press Ctrl+Alt+T to open terminal, and run 3 commands below one by one:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/scribus\r\n\r\nsudo apt update\r\n\r\nsudo apt install scribus<\/pre>\n<h3>Uninstall:<\/h3>\n<p>For any issue, you may run the command below in terminal to remove the desktop publishing app package:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove scribus scribus-data<\/pre>\n<p>Also remove the PPA, either by running the command below in terminal window:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/scribus<\/pre>\n<p>or by removing source line using &#8220;Software &amp; Updates&#8221; utility under &#8220;Other Software&#8221; tab.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/remove-scribus-ppa.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33257\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/remove-scribus-ppa.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"290\" \/><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scribus, the popular free open-source desktop publishing software, released new 1.6.4 version yesterday.
