The upgrade channel opened just after the release date. It however had some critical issues.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_48910\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/puffin.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48910\" class=\"size-full wp-image-48910\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/puffin.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/puffin.webp 640w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/puffin-300x200.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-48910\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image by Paul Edney from Pixabay<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/discourse.ubuntu.com\/t\/status-of-oracular-to-plucky-upgrades\/59652\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this thread<\/a>, the 25.04 upgrade channel had issues that incorrectly removed third-party packages (e.g., apps installed from PPA), mistakenly removed <code>kubuntu-desktop<\/code> and\/or <code>ubuntustudio-desktop<\/code>, and unable to upgrade in Qt-based flavors as front-end being ported to PyQt6.<\/p>\n<p>After almost 3 weeks of work, all the issues have been fixed, and the upgrade channel is back!<\/p>\n<h3>How to Start the Upgrade<\/h3>\n<p>The upgrade process can be started either from graphical interface or in terminal.<\/p>\n<p><b>First of all, make a backup of important data just in case!<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Then, launch &#8220;<b>Software Updater<\/b>&#8221; and install all the available updates. Restart your computer if it asks. If all is up-to-date, it should prompt that &#8220;Ubuntu 25.04 is now available (you have 24.10)&#8221; along with the <b>Upgrade<\/b> button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/update-manager-2504upgrade.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48911\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/update-manager-2504upgrade.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"645\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/update-manager-2504upgrade.webp 645w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/update-manager-2504upgrade-300x96.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 645px) 100vw, 645px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t see that option, make sure you set &#8220;Notify me of a new Ubuntu version: For any new version&#8221; in <i>Software &amp; Updates<\/i> utility under <i>Updates<\/i> tab.
