App Center disappeared, instead it shows you the old Ubuntu Software in your Ubuntu 24.04? Here’s how to fix the issue.<\/p>\n

As you know, Ubuntu switched to App Center since 23.10. While, the old Ubuntu Software is still in use for Ubuntu 22.04 and 20.04. And, both are Snap Store<\/b>.<\/p>\n

While the old Ubuntu Software is built with GTK toolkit, App Center uses Google Flutter<\/a> for its user interface that looks modern and runs faster.<\/p>\n

Ubuntu distributes the snap-store package through different channels for each Ubuntu releases. For 22.04, it’s latest\/stable\/ubuntu-22.04<\/code>, and for Ubuntu 24.04 it’s latest\/stable\/ubuntu-24.04<\/code>.<\/p>\n

Since Ubuntu 24.10, the rule has changed<\/a><\/b>. It uses 1\/stable<\/code> for old Ubuntu Software, and 2\/stable<\/code> channel for App Center.<\/p>\n

when users install the snap-store snap, they receive the old Ubuntu Software when installing latest\/stable<\/code> and the new Flutter based App Center is only available on latest\/stable\/ubuntu-23.10<\/code> and newer release branches.<\/i><\/p>\n

To resolve this issue we are creating new tracks for the App Center so that Ubuntu Software will track 1\/stable<\/code> and the App Center will track 2\/stable<\/code>. This means we can continue to support Ubuntu Software on older LTS releases …<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ubuntu 25.04 uses 2\/stable channel for snap-store updates<\/p><\/div>\n

The current 22.04 and 24.04 LTS still use latest\/stable<\/code> channel for the snap-store package.<\/p>\n

But, perhaps due to mistakes, I’ve seen App Center disappeared, and Ubuntu went back in my Ubuntu 24.04 twice!<\/p>\n

App Center disappeared! Instead it shows me Ubuntu Software<\/p><\/div>\n

The correct way to fix the issue is wait! Wait until Ubuntu team found the mistake and updated the channel with App Center back for 24.04.<\/b><\/p>\n

Though, you may try to manually refresh\u00a0the package by running command:<\/p>\n

snap refresh snap-store<\/pre>\n
Switch to 2\/stable to get back App Center<\/h3>\n
If you can’t wait, then the one-time solution is switch to the 2\/stable<\/code> channel<\/b> mentioned above.<\/p>\n
To do so, press Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run the single command below:<\/p>\n
snap refresh snap-store --channel=2\/stable\/ubuntu-24.04<\/pre>\n
If the command failed and showed you “snap-store” has running apps<\/i>, then kill the app according to the PID number in terminal output:<\/p>\n
sudo kill -9 PID_NUMBER_HERE<\/pre>\n
Then, re-run the last command to switch snap-store app channel.<\/p>\n

When done, trigger Gnome Overview, search & open App Center and enjoy!<\/p>\n
How to Restore<\/h3>\n
To revert back the previous snap-store channel, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command:<\/p>\n
snap refresh snap-store --channel=latest\/stable\/ubuntu-24.04<\/pre>\n
