And, for Ubuntu users, the &#8220;Gnucash packaging team&#8221; PPA revived.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gnucash512.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-49203\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gnucash512-700x511.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"445\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gnucash512-700x511.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gnucash512-300x219.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gnucash512-768x561.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/gnucash512.webp 989w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>First of all, GnuCash 5.12 added <i>China Merchants Bank<\/i> support in security editor. And, it removed no longer supported F::Q Modules Bloomberg.pm, DWSFunds, Investor&#8217;s Exchange (U.S.), Morningstar Australia, Skanddinaviska Enskilda Banken, Tiaacref.pm, Troweprice.pm and many of the multi-source sources from the Security Editor.<\/p>\n<p>As reports with links to detail sub-reports, such as the budget reports, take a long time to generate, the release now generates sub-reports only when user clicks the link in the main report.<\/p>\n<p>For Canadians, it added <i>semi-annual compounding period<\/i> in Loan \/ Mortgage Repayment, implemented more correct simple-rate formula provided by a Canadian licensed accountant. As well, it\u00a0added day-interval loan payments, fixed memory issues, and some other improvements.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/semi-annually.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-49206\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/semi-annually-700x399.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/semi-annually-700x399.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/semi-annually-300x171.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/semi-annually-768x438.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/semi-annually.webp 1248w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Swiss, it replaced <code>SFr.<\/code> with <code>Fr.<\/code>, as <code>SFr.<\/code> is obsolete but <code>Fr.<\/code> is still widely used. For those who prefer CHF, it can be set in the security editor.<\/p>\n<p>Other changes in the release include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use ICU for Unicode string comparison and substring search.<\/li>\n<li>Change the curser focus for &#8220;Change Reconciled Split&#8221; warning pop-up.<\/li>\n<li>Fix that automatic decimal point doesn&#8217;t work properly with zeros when entering stocks<\/li>\n<li>Fix error on start or opening a gnucash file with # in URL.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid non-POSIX &#8220;echo -n&#8221; behavior in util\/gnc-vcs-info.<\/li>\n<li>Fix crash when deleting all splits in General Journal<\/li>\n<li>Various other fixes, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gnucash.org\/news.phtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NEWS page<\/a> for details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to Install GnuCash 5.12<\/h3>\n<p>The Windows EXE, macOS DMG, and source tarball for GnuCash are available to download in the sourceforge:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/sourceforge.net\/projects\/gnucash\/files\/gnucash%20%28stable%29\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download GnuCash<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Linux, there&#8217;s an <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/org.gnucash.GnuCash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official Flatpak package <\/a> for x86_64 (Intel\/AMD) and arm64 (e.g., RasPi) plaftorms and runs in sandbox environment.<\/p>\n<p>Linux Mint 21\/22 and Fedora (with 3rd party repository enabled) users may search &amp; install the package directly from either Software Manager or GNOME Software.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_49207\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/gnucash-mint.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49207\" class=\"size-large wp-image-49207\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/gnucash-mint-700x528.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/gnucash-mint-700x528.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/gnucash-mint-300x226.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/gnucash-mint-768x580.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/gnucash-mint.webp 889w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-49207\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GnuCash Flatpak package in Linux Mint Software Manager<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While Debian\/Ubuntu may run the 2 commands below one by one to install:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and enable Flatpak support:\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Then install the personal and small-business financial-accounting as Flatpak package:\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/org.gnucash.GnuCash.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NOTE: If app icon is not visible after installation, then try log out and back in to apply variable change.<\/p>\n<p><b>For Ubuntu<\/b>, the upstream <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/finance-quote\/finance-quote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">finance-quote<\/a> team developer revived the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~gnucash\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;GnuCash packaging team&#8221; PPA<\/a>. I joined the team and made the new release package for Ubuntu from 20.04 to 25.04 on X86_64 and ARM64 platforms.<\/p>\n<p><i>NOTE: The PPA package is NOT affiliated with Ubuntu or Gnucash developer team! It&#8217;s considered as unofficial!<\/i><\/p>\n<p>To add the PPA and install GnuCash 5.12, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run commands:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnucash\/ppa\r\nsudo apt update\r\nsudo apt install gnucash<\/pre>\n<p>For Ubuntu 20.04 with Ubuntu Pro enabled, try the command below instead if you got dependency issue:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install -t \"o=LP-PPA-gnucash\" gnucash<\/pre>\n<h3>Uninstall:<\/h3>\n<p>To uninstall GnuCash installed from PPA, use command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt remove --autoremove gnucash<\/pre>\n<p>And, remove the PPA by running command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:gnucash\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p>For the official flatpak package, use the command to uninstall:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data org.gnucash.GnuCash<\/pre>\n<p>Also run <code>flatpak uninstall --unused<\/code> to remove useless runtimes.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GnuCash, the popular free open-source accounting software, released new 5.12 version yesterday.
