When it opens, do below steps:<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> To add the PPA, paste below command in terminal and run:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:wayland.admin\/daily-builds<\/pre>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> After that, install the package <b>weston<\/b> and <b>XWayland<\/b> via Synaptic Package Manager or by running below commands one by one:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get update\n\nsudo apt-get install weston xwayland<\/pre>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Now you should be able to start Weston within X by running command <code>weston<\/code>, which provides a Terminal along with a basic window manager functionality.<\/p>\n<p>If you want you can create &#038; edit <b>weston.ini<\/b> file via below command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none\">gedit ~\/.config\/weston.ini<\/pre>\n<p>Change its appearances by adding some settings like <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/krh\/weston\/blob\/master\/weston.ini\" target=\"_blank\">this page<\/a>. Finally the weston window looks like:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/weston-window.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/weston-window-600x393.jpg\" alt=\"weston-window\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4924\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/weston-window-600x393.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/weston-window-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/weston-window.jpg 1067w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>4.<\/b> To running Gnome Shell session on Wayland, run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install gnome-session-wayland<\/pre>\n<p>Then log out and select &#8220;Gnome on Wayland&#8221; in gdm login screen:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/gnome_on_wayland.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/gnome_on_wayland.jpg\" alt=\"gnome_on_wayland\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4925\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/gnome_on_wayland.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/gnome_on_wayland-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using the default LightDM display manager, you may have to do :<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Install Gnome Shell if don&#8217;t have Gnome session:\n<pre style=\"border:none\">sudo apt-get install gnome-shell<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;ve installed Gnome-Shell but still using LightDM, run command to select gdm:\n<pre style=\"border:none\">sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Finally restart your computer and you should see the gdm login screen as above picture shows.<\/li>\n<\/ol>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daily builds of Wayland and Weston are now available in PPA for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.10, and Ubuntu 15.04.
