It&#8217;s revived in last year with port to Qt5 and KF5. By releasing v3.3, Amarok is now ported to Qt6\/KF6, while Qt5\/KF5 support has been dropped.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/amarok33.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-49246\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/amarok33-700x454.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"396\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/amarok33-700x454.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/amarok33-300x195.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/amarok33-768x498.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/amarok33.webp 1115w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Meaning now the music player is well integrated with most recent KDE Plamsa 6 desktop environment, while having faster rendering performance and less memory usage.<\/p>\n<p>Besides that, the release now uses GStreamer instead of Phonon as backend for audio playback.<\/p>\n<p>Other changes according to the changelog, include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Default to not allow compiling without embedded database.<\/li>\n<li>Handle volume better and avoid resets on track changes.<\/li>\n<li>Apply default pre-gain when ReplayGain is active and use fallback value if no ReplayGain data is available for a track<\/li>\n<li>Clear out some of the now-discontinued last.fm radio functionalities and partially replace by opening relevant last.fm pages<\/li>\n<li>Partially re-enable cue file support.<\/li>\n<li>Prevent concurrent scan result processings from taking place to avoid potential database issues.<\/li>\n<li>Remove TagLib extras support (RealMedia and Audible files).<\/li>\n<li>Update database character set to allow full utf-8 values.<\/li>\n<li>Fix year 2038 problem for various dates saved in database.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more, see the official <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kde.org\/2025\/07\/08\/amarok-3.3-far-above-the-clouds-released\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release note<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Install Amarok 3.3<\/h3>\n<p>The source tarball of this music player application is available to download at KDE website via the link below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/download.kde.org\/stable\/amarok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Amarok<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Besides building from source, Arch Linux has already made the app package into extra repository. While, most other Linux may install the <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/org.kde.amarok\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flatpak package<\/a>, though it&#8217;s not updated at the moment of writing.<\/p>\n<p>For Linux Mint and Fedora (with 3rd party repository enabled), simply search for and install the package from either Software Manager or GNOME Software.<\/p>\n<p>While Debian, Ubuntu and their based systems may run the 2 commands below one by one to install the Flatpak:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, open terminal\/console (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run the command below to enable Flatpak support:\n<pre>sudo apt install flatpak<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Then, run the command below to install the music player as Flatpak:\n<pre>flatpak install https:\/\/dl.flathub.org\/repo\/appstream\/org.kde.amarok.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Tips:<\/b> if this is the first time you installing a Flatpak app package, then you may need a log out and back in to make app icon visible.<\/p>\n<p>And, to check updates for the Flatpak package, use command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak update org.kde.amarok<\/pre>\n<h3>Uninstall Amarok:<\/h3>\n<p>If you installed the music player through Flatpak package, then uninstall it via command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak uninstall --delete-data org.kde.amarok<\/pre>\n<p><i>Skip <code>--delete-data<\/code> flag if you want to keep the personal app data, e.g., preferences.
