There will also be a RC release, while, the final of GNOME 49 is planned for <b>September 17<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In last <b>Alpha<\/b>, the desktop added support <i>relative dials on tablet pads<\/i>, <i>disabled Xorg<\/i> session, and introduced new <i>Glycin loader<\/i> as backend library for gdk-pixbuf and loupe image viewer.<\/p>\n<p>It as well moved &#8220;Do Not Distrub&#8221; to top-right quick settings menu, added configuration for trackpoint, and touch support in Gnome Remote Desktop.<\/p>\n<p>In this <b>Beta<\/b>, it updated GDM to enable systemd-based session management on the greeter and dropped the builtin service manager code.<\/p>\n<p>For music players that are well integrated with GNOME, the media playback control will now even appear on the lock screen.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_49486\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49486\" class=\"size-large wp-image-49486\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/lockscreen-mediacontrol-700x415.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/lockscreen-mediacontrol-700x415.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/lockscreen-mediacontrol-300x178.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/lockscreen-mediacontrol-768x455.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/lockscreen-mediacontrol-1320x782.webp 1320w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/lockscreen-mediacontrol.webp 1427w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-49486\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Media Control in lock screen<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It also added an option to show &#8220;Restart&#8221; and &#8220;Power-Off&#8221; menu options to the lock screen.<\/p>\n<p>This however is NOT enabled by default.
