
{"id":5008,"date":"2015-06-05T17:19:57","date_gmt":"2015-06-05T17:19:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/?p=5008"},"modified":"2015-06-05T17:19:57","modified_gmt":"2015-06-05T17:19:57","slug":"install-spotify-client-1-x-beta-ubuntu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2015\/06\/install-spotify-client-1-x-beta-ubuntu\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Install Spotify Client 1.x (Beta) in Ubuntu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/spotify-logo-icon1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/spotify-logo-icon1.png\" alt=\"spotify console client\" width=\"245\" height=\"247\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/spotify-logo-icon1.png 245w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/spotify-logo-icon1-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>The beta version of the next major 1.x release of Spotify client for Linux has been announced a few hours ago, available for test in its testing repository.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>According to the announcement, the 1.x client brings below changes to Linux users:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Various text\/mouse input bugs in current stable release (e.g. client doesn&#8217;t give up mouse focus, crash on drag\/drop, text input not work on some window managers) have been fixed.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Now playing&#8221; notifications can be switched off in the settings page<\/li>\n<li>The WM_CLASS property should be set correctly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As a beta release (version 1.0.7.153.gb9e8174a at the moment), there are some known issues\/limitations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Login with Facebook Connect does not work (will be fixed soon)<\/li>\n<li>There is no application menu<\/li>\n<li>There is no tray icon<\/li>\n<li>Some key bindings do not work yet, like ctrl+s for shuffle, etc.<\/li>\n<li>The application is super tiny on hi-res displays<\/li>\n<li>32-bit builds are not available yet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/spotify-1.x.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/spotify-1.x.jpg\" alt=\"spotify-1.x\" width=\"250\" height=\"395\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5010\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you want to try this new client in Ubuntu 14.04\/15.04, follow bellow steps to add <i>Spotify testing repository<\/i> and keep the client up-to-date via Software Updater.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> To add the testing repository, open terminal and run:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">echo deb http:\/\/repository.spotify.com testing non-free | sudo tee \/etc\/apt\/sources.list.d\/spotify.list<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/spotify-testing-repository.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/spotify-testing-repository.jpg\" alt=\"spotify-testing-repository\" width=\"560\" height=\"87\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5009\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/spotify-testing-repository.jpg 560w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/spotify-testing-repository-450x69.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> After that, you can install the 1.x client either via <i>Synaptic Package Manager<\/i> or by running below commands one by one:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get update\n\nsudo apt-get install spotify-client<\/pre>\n<p><b>3.
