The feature however is not tested because the developers don&#8217;t have a stylus to try it out.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Unfortunately I can&#8217;t test as we don&#8217;t have any stylus with such barrel rotation feature (and unfortunately this hardware feature is discontinued and getting a stylus with this is extra-hard now), but that should work. And at the very least, it does match with MyPaint&#8217;s implementation.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-32rc2.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-50217\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-32rc2-700x397.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-32rc2-700x397.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-32rc2-300x170.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-32rc2-768x436.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-32rc2-1320x749.webp 1320w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-32rc2.webp 1429w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This RC also <b>improved the Paint Select support<\/b>. It&#8217;s an experimental feature introduced since version 3.0. User may try the feature by starting GIMP with <code>--show-playground<\/code> option, then go to preferences -&gt; playground to enable it. Though, the gegl library needs to be compiled with <code>workshop<\/code> enabled.<\/p>\n<p>In the release, it added progression feedback and improved local region computation to this experimental feature. And, it now processes more events, reset the scribbles at every stroke.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-50218\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-playground-700x555.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"484\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-playground-700x555.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-playground-300x238.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-playground-768x609.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp-playground.webp 1055w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>GIMP 3.2 RC2 also removed the restriction that prevented saving and exporting when no drawables are selected, raised the clipboard brush and pattern max size limit to 8192 for 64-bit processors, while it stays 1024 on 32-bit architecture, and it greatly improved the speed for initial font loading.<\/p>\n<p>It now has a much more robust path importing from SVG by latest C-based librsvg code, and uses opaque path IDs for the &#8216;id&#8217; attribute for SVG exporting, but not the GUI-visible path name anymore, to match the SVG specs.<\/p>\n<p>To prevent infinite loops with cycling links, it also added a few safety checks when creating new link layers and when loading XCF files with link layers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp32-rc2-splash.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"364\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-50219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp32-rc2-splash.webp 530w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp32-rc2-splash-300x206.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Other changes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New startup splash.<\/li>\n<li>Set default PS\/EPS export unit to millimiter instead of inch.<\/li>\n<li>Import legacy PSD Outer Glow layer style.<\/li>\n<li>Add Bash completion for the command line interface.<\/li>\n<li>Vulnerability fixes: ZDI-CAN-28311, ZDI-CAN-28273, ZDI-CAN-28158.<\/li>\n<li>Other fixes and build updates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Get GIMP 3.2 RC2<\/h3>\n<p>The new RC2 is not announced at the moment of writing, though you may keep an eye on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gimp.org\/news\/\" target=\"_blank\">news page<\/a> for announcement.<\/p>\n<p>For the source tarball, as well as the official packages for Linux, Windows, and macOS, they are available to download via the link below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/download.gimp.org\/pub\/gimp\/v3.2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download GIMP 3.2 RC2<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Linux, select download the AppImage for either x86_64 (AMD\/Intel) or aarch64 (for e.g., RasPi or SnapDragon X processors), then run to launch the image editor after adding executable permission.<\/p>\n<p>Though, Ubuntu since 22.04 needs to install <code>libfuse2<\/code> package for being able to run AppImage:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install libfuse2<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp32rc2-appimage-700x447.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"390\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-50220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp32rc2-appimage-700x447.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp32rc2-appimage-300x192.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp32rc2-appimage-768x491.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gimp32rc2-appimage.webp 1117w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For those who prefer the Flatpak package, it&#8217;s also available to install via:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak install --user https:\/\/flathub.org\/beta-repo\/appstream\/org.gimp.GIMP.flatpakref<\/pre>\n<p>And, users who already installed the package can update it via command:<\/p>\n<pre>flatpak update org.gimp.GIMP\/\/beta<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second RC development release for the GIMP image editor 3.2 is out!
