Software developers. launchpad PPAs, and popular apps (e.g., Chrome and Firefox) will not update for this EOL distribution anymore.<\/p>\n<p>As time goes on, there&#8217;ll be more and more security vulnerabilities discovered, and due to lack of patches they\u00a0make the system easy targets for malware and hackers. And, outdated kernel and libraries may break compatibility with modern applications (even when running as Flatpak in sandbox).<\/p>\n<h3>Upgrade to Ubuntu 25.10 or Install Ubuntu 24.04<\/h3>\n<p>If you would like to upgrade to Ubuntu 25.10, simply launch <b>Software Updater<\/b>, install all the available updates, restart computer if it asks, and finally run <code>update-manager -c<\/code> command in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) to re-launch with new distribution check.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, click &#8220;Upgrade&#8230;&#8221; button to start upgrading to 25.10, though it&#8217;s BETTER to backup important data first in case of failure.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-49933\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/upgrade2510-notify.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"645\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/upgrade2510-notify.webp 645w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/upgrade2510-notify-300x96.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 645px) 100vw, 645px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Or, run command below to install the release upgrader:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install ubuntu-release-upgrader-core<\/pre>\n<p>Then, use <code>do-release-upgrade<\/code> command to upgrade from command line, which is useful for Ubuntu server. For more, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.ubuntu.com\/community\/QuestingUpgrades\" target=\"_blank\">official guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For those who want to go back to Ubuntu 24.04, download the .iso image from <a href=\"https:\/\/releases.ubuntu.com\/24.04\/\" target=\"_blank\">releases.ubuntu.com\/24.04<\/a> and you may follow the official guides to <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntu.com\/tutorials\/install-ubuntu-desktop\" target=\"_blank\">install Ubuntu desktop<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntu.com\/tutorials\/install-ubuntu-server\" target=\"_blank\">Ubuntu Server<\/a>.
