It will no longer show the Welcome Dialog when you launch GIMP with an image either from &#8216;open with&#8217; context menu or command line.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_50701\" style=\"width: 611px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50701\" class=\"size-large wp-image-50701\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp32-welcome-601x700.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp32-welcome-601x700.webp 601w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp32-welcome-258x300.webp 258w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp32-welcome.webp 692w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-50701\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Welcome Dialog no longer appear when launch GIMP along with image opened<\/p><\/div>\n<p>For keyboard user, the Flip tool has been updated with support for using <code>Left<\/code> and <code>Right<\/code> arrows to flip image horizontally, and <code>Up<\/code> and <code>Down<\/code> arrows to flip it vertically.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the Shear tool now supports using <code>Left<\/code> and <code>Right<\/code> arrows to shear image horizontally, and the <code>Up<\/code> and <code>Down<\/code> arrows to do the same vertically, as well, you can hold <code>Shift<\/code> key to shear with a larger value.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_50702\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50702\" class=\"size-large wp-image-50702\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp-flip-700x394.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp-flip-700x394.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp-flip-300x169.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp-flip-768x432.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp-flip-1320x743.webp 1320w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gimp-flip.webp 1502w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-50702\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flip and Shear tools now support allow keys<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There are also some other UI\/UX improvements. The Crop Tool now automatically adds transparency to a layer if you set it to fill with transparency. And, the Delete button in layer dockable now deletes the layer mask if selected instead of deleting the layer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-50703\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/delete-layermask.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"508\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/delete-layermask.webp 508w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/delete-layermask-300x193.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Besides the UI\/UX changes, the new version also improved file formats support. It now supports <b>BC7 (.dds)<\/b> format export, as import added since 3.0. The lossless WebP export and JPEG 2000 export issues caused by quality settings were fixed. <\/p>\n<p>As well, it now supports importing palette swatches from the Procreate art program, and, OpenEXR import supports YR and YB color channels.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-50704\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/dds-export-555x700.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/dds-export-555x700.webp 555w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/dds-export-238x300.webp 238w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/dds-export.webp 590w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>GIMP 3.2 RC3 also improved its installers. The macOS (.dmg) and Windows installers now have custom icon and scripts to generate custom background matching the splash screen.<\/p>\n<p>The Linux AppImage has been updated with fixes for AArch64 (ARM64) and third-party plugins support. And, Flatpak package now has <b>initial Global Menu<\/b> support by specifying GIMP_GTK_MENUBAR = 1 environment variable.<\/p>\n<p>Other changes in this RC include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New splash screen.<\/li>\n<li>Reordered Hue Saturation GUI.<\/li>\n<li>Support drag&#8217;n&#8217;dropping color or pattern swatches on a vector layer to change the fill.<\/li>\n<li>Levels, Curves, Equalize, and White Balance filters now default to Linear precision.<\/li>\n<li>Curve-Bend plug-in support in scripts.<\/li>\n<li>Use GimpColorScales and GimpColorSelect functions in plugins and scripts.<\/li>\n<li>Added <code>gimp_config_get_xcf_version ()<\/code> and <code>gimp_config_set_xcf_version ()<\/code> functions.<\/li>\n<li>Create GimpCurve objects in plug-ins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are as well some security and other bug-fixes.
