The main highlights of this release are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blender now supports a fully integrated Multi-View and Stereo 3D pipeline<\/li>\n<li>Cycles has much awaited initial support for AMD GPUs, and a new Light Portals feature.<\/li>\n<li>UI now allows font previews in the file browser.<\/li>\n<li>High quality options for viewport depth of field were added<\/li>\n<li>Modeling has a new Corrective Smooth modifier.<\/li>\n<li>The Decimate modifier was improved significantly.<\/li>\n<li>3D viewport painting now supports symmetry and the distribution of Dynamic Topology was improved<\/li>\n<li>Video Sequence Editor: Placeholders can now replace missing frames of image sequences<\/li>\n<li>Game Engine now allows smoother LOD transitions, and supports mist attributes animation<\/li>\n<li>And: 100s of bug fixes and smaller feature improvements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For details, release <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blender.org\/features\/2-75\/\" target=\"_blank\">the announcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/splash_275.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/splash_275.png\" alt=\"Blender 275 splash\" width=\"501\" height=\"282\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5072\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/splash_275.png 501w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/splash_275-450x253.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 501px) 100vw, 501px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>How to install\/upgrade Blender in Ubuntu:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Blender website provides pre-built binary packages for Linux 32-bit\/64-bit, you may read this post to <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2014\/10\/install-the-latest-blender-release-ubuntu\/\" target=\"_blank\">install the official package and make a shortcut icon for Ubuntu desktop.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since the official package is not well integrated with Ubuntu desktop, you can alternatively install Blender from Thomas Schiex&#8217;s PPA, and receive future updates through <i>Software Updater.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>To do so, run below commands one by one in a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) window:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:thomas-schiex\/blender\n\nsudo apt-get update\n\nsudo apt-get install blender<\/pre>\n<p>Note that there might be a small delay before a new release to be made into the PPA.
