If everything goes well, it will be released to the general public soon.<\/p>\n<p>NVIDIA 610 is the latest new feature branch Linux driver, which was released more than a month ago on May 26. It introduced several new Vulkan extensions support, Wayland improvement, and some fixes.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/nvidia-settings610-700x496.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"432\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-51292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/nvidia-settings610-700x496.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/nvidia-settings610-300x213.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/nvidia-settings610-768x545.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/nvidia-settings610.webp 846w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The driver added <code>VK_EXT_shader_long_vector<\/code> extension support useful for scientific computing, machine learning kernels, and custom data packing, <code>VK_KHR_internally_synchronized_queues<\/code> extension for safe multiple threads call, <code>VK_NV_push_constant_bank<\/code> extension allows to specify a memory bank and offset for push constants, as well as <code>VK_KHR_device_group_creation<\/code> allows to create single logical device from a group of physical GPUs.<\/p>\n<p>It also added FP16 EGL framebuffer configurations on Wayland, DRM format modifiers support for multi-planar YCbCr formats, as well as per-plane DRM color pipeline API that are useful for for high dynamic range (HDR) rendering.<\/p>\n<p>Other changes include support for mmap on DMABUF file descriptors exported from discrete NVIDIA GPUs, allowing CPU to read and write NVIDIA GPU\u2011allocated shared memory buffers, performance improvements on Starfield and Doom: The Dark Ages video games, and more. See the official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/drivers\/details\/271414\/\" target=\"_blank\">release note<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<h3>Install NVIDIA 610 driver in Ubuntu:<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.download.nvidia.com\/compute\/cuda\/repos\/\" target=\"_blank\">NVIDIA-provided driver packages<\/a> for Ubuntu and other Linux distributions were made available when the 610 driver was released. And, I&#8217;m written about <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2026\/05\/install-nvidia-drivers-ubuntu-26-04\/\" target=\"_blank\">how to install<\/a> it in Ubuntu (Option 2).<\/p>\n<p>However, it&#8217;s always recommended to use the Ubuntu-provided package. And, it will be available soon. Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/ubuntu\/+source\/nvidia-graphics-drivers-610\" target=\"_blank\">nvidia-610 package status<\/a> in launchpad page.<\/p>\n<p>After the proposed testing, it will be made available to the general public. Meaning it&#8217;s NOT maintained by Ubuntu core developers, and NOT officially supported by Ubuntu.
