IntelliJ IDEA, JetBrains’ Java IDE, released new major 2026.2 version today for Linux, Windows, and macOS.<\/p>\n
The new version of this software introduced some AI updates, new Java, Kotlin, TypeScript languages support, and many other improvements.<\/p>\n

The new version of IntelliJ IDEA comes with GitHub Copilot out-of-the-box<\/b>. User can access Copilot directly from the agent picker in the AI chat. While, the authentication is handled via OAuth with your GitHub account, and an active GitHub Copilot subscription is required.<\/p>\n
This version also includes some of the most useful skills in the bundle, and, allows user to discover, install, and manage custom agent skills directly in the IDE, not only from the built-in library, but also from local projects and directories, public GitHub repositories, or projects you have configured in other editors.<\/p>\n Besides AI updates, the release introduced logpoints<\/b>, allowing to inspect internal application states and execution context, as well as send custom messages without interrupting execution.<\/p>\n It makes adding Maven\/Gradle dependencies easier by providing a cloud-based dependency search. Instead of manually searching external websites for library names and versions, you can type the library name directly in the build file, and IntelliJ shows matching libraries, available versions, and suggested dependency scopes automatically.<\/p>\n IntelliJ IDEA 2026.2 is also preparing for Gradle 10 support by working closely with Gradle Technologies. It improves Gradle migration by allowing projects using Gradle 9.7+ to sync even when build scripts contain errors. It also provides updated code assistance based on the newer Gradle APIs to help developers identify and fix migration issues before Gradle 10 arrives.<\/p>\n The 2026.2 version also added support for the upcoming Java 27, and the latest language features in Kotlin 2.4.0.
