It\u2019s an opt-in feature in Ubuntu 26.10, while the current Ubuntu 26.04 can also try it out.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>How it works<\/h3>\n<p>Just press a keyboard shortcut and speak naturally, the app will record what you said, then use an AI model to convert the voice to text, finally type the text in your application.<\/p>\n<p><b>All the process works offline!<\/b> And, myna is made up of three components:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><code>myna-config<\/code> &#8211; the graphical configuration tool, responsible for choosing which AI model to use (<b>Whisper<\/b>, <b>Parakeet<\/b>, or <b>FunASR<\/b>), set keyboard shortcut, language, etc.<\/li>\n<li>myna client and AI models, installed as snap packages.<\/li>\n<li>Gnome Shell extension for dictation activity indicator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step 1: Install myna-config Graphical Configuration Tool<\/h3>\n<p>For user on modern <strong>Intel\/AMD<\/strong> platform, Ubuntu developer maintains <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~charles05\/+archive\/ubuntu\/myna-config\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a PPA<\/a> that contains <code>myna-config<\/code> package for Ubuntu 24.04 and Ubuntu 26.04.<\/p>\n<p>To install the package, first press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to launch terminal, then run command to add PPA:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:charles05\/myna-config<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-52117\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/myna-config-ppa-700x362.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/myna-config-ppa-700x362.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/myna-config-ppa-300x155.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/myna-config-ppa.webp 702w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, run command to install the configuration tool:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt install myna-config<\/pre>\n<p>If you&#8217;re following this tutorial in Linux Mint, then run <code>sudo apt update<\/code> to refresh cache first.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-52118\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/apt-mynaconfig-700x381.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/apt-mynaconfig-700x381.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/apt-mynaconfig-300x163.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/apt-mynaconfig.webp 702w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, launch the tool from either Gnome Overview or by running <code>myna-config<\/code> in terminal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-52119\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/launch-myna-config.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"514\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/launch-myna-config.webp 514w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/launch-myna-config-300x138.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 514px) 100vw, 514px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Install Myna Client and AI Models<\/h3>\n<p>Both the client app and AI models are available as Snap packages.<\/p>\n<p>To install then, first launch terminal (<code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code>) then run the commands below one by one:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, run command to allow snap packages to run background services as user:\n<pre>sudo snap set system experimental.user-daemons=true<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Then, install the myna client (so far available in edge repository):\n<pre>sudo snap install myna --edge<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Finally, download &amp;
