So, the dialogs look and behave more like a native application.<\/p>\n<p>For <b>Calc<\/b> app, it fixed wrong dimensions for rotated drawing objects and unable to edit database ranges in XLSX files.<\/p>\n<p>It also fixed the issues that AutoFilter incorrectly treated the German character <code>\u00df<\/code> as equivalent to <code>ss<\/code>, and named hyperlinks were not working after exported as PDF.<\/p>\n<p>It as well fixed the garbled Chinese text in the Text Import dialog when pasting unformatted text, and, &#8220;Text to Columns&#8221; feature was garbling Japanese text when it fails to detect a full-width space as the delimiter.<\/p>\n<p>Other Calc fixes include special characters decoding issue in old Lotus 1-2-3 files, ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) detection when importing some CSV files, import of CSV files encoded as UTF-16BE, as well as a few crashes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-calc-700x415.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"362\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-52150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-calc-700x415.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-calc-300x178.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-calc-768x455.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-calc.webp 1288w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <b>Writer<\/b> app in the release also got many fixes, including Table of Contents (TOC) hyperlinks could randomly stop working in DOCX files, and text alignment issue for DOCX documents containing multiple tab characters.<\/p>\n<p>It also fixed the line spacing issue when opening some DOC\/DOCX documents using CJK fonts, and fixed text highlighting not covering the full text height with Leading line spacing.<\/p>\n<p>Other fixes include PDF export incorrectly displaying hidden paragraph numbering, Japanese full-width\/half-width character conversion, paragraphs being incorrectly moved to the next page, as well as app freeze when using the vertical scrollbar on ARM-based macOS.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-writer-700x396.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"345\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-52151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-writer-700x396.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-writer-300x170.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-writer-768x435.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/lb-writer.webp 1374w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For Impress, it fixed the PPTX import crash caused by an unknown table style ID or malformed \/ unusual comment data.<\/p>\n<p>There are as well many other fixes in <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.documentfoundation.org\/blog\/2026\/10\/02\/libreoffice-26-8-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">LibreOffice 26.8.1<\/a>, they include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>LibreOffice Base incorrectly handling MySQL\/MariaDB database names that contain dots (.).<\/li>\n<li>Error when using CoreReflection with nested arrays created from <code>Split()<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Read-only documents not switching to editable mode after using Save As.<\/li>\n<li>Crash when creating Pivot Tables with multiple data fields.<\/li>\n<li>And more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Get LibreOffice 26.8.1<\/h3>\n<p>LibreOffice provides official packages for Linux, Windows, and macOS, which are available to download at the link below:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-to-vivid-purple-gradient-background has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/www.libreoffice.org\/download\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download LibreOffice<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Linux, besides the native DEB\/RPM packages, there are also universal Flatpak and AppImage available to download in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.libreoffice.org\/download-other\/\" target=\"_blank\">others page<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>And, Ubuntu members maintain an <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~libreoffice\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" target=\"_blank\">Ubuntu PPA<\/a> for LibreOffice, which however stuck at v26.2.x at the moment.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Document Foundation announced the first maintenance release for LibreOffice 26.8 yesterday.
