On earlier Windows versions, it fixed that the console windows repeatedly appeared when darktable or a Lua script ran an external command.

It also fixed the app stealing focus and Alt+Tab failing to switch away when the mouse pointer was over a lighttable thumbnail.

Others are mostly stability and crash fixes, including crashes when importing a style whose module order is empty, when an AI model returns more data than darktable reserved for it, and, when checking a faulty custom ONNX Runtime library on Windows.

They also include memory leaks when expanding variables and pasting history stacks onto images in darkroom, which could accumulate with repeated image imports or exports.

Get Darktable 5.6.1

The official release note and the installer packages are available in Github releases page via the link below:

Darktable Releases

Besides the packages under Assets section, there are also community maintained DEB/RPM packages for Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora, and openSUSE users which are available to download at this OBS page.

For Ubuntu users who prefer PPA, I’ve built the new version into this PPA for Ubuntu 26.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

As well, it’s available to install as Flatpak package, an universal Linux package format that runs in sandbox.

Darktable, the popular photography workflow and raw developer software, released new 5.6.2 version today.
