Below is how to upgrade your existing Ubuntu 15.04 to Ubuntu 15.10.<\/p>\n<p><b>Preparation<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>1. Backup Data.<\/b> You should back up your important documents, files, bookmarks, etc.<\/p>\n<p><b>2. Disable PPAs.<\/b> Some PPAs may cause the upgrade fail, so do disable all third-party PPAs in <u>Software &#038; Updates -> Other Software<\/u> tab.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/third-party-ppas.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/third-party-ppas-450x342.jpg\" alt=\"third-party-ppas\" width=\"450\" height=\"342\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/third-party-ppas-450x342.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/third-party-ppas.jpg 591w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>3. Uninstall video driver.<\/b> If you&#8217;ve manually installed <u>proprietary drivers<\/u> directly from the manufacturer\u2019s website, then before upgrading I recommend you removing these drivers first and reverting to the open-source drivers.<\/p>\n<p><b>Upgrade Ubuntu Desktop:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. Open terminal from the Unity Dash, App Launcher, or via Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut key. When it opens, run command to update your system:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade<\/pre>\n<p>2. After that, launch Software Updater via below command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo update-manager -d<\/pre>\n<p>Below window should pop-up and prompt that Ubuntu 15.10 is available for upgrade:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/system-upgrade-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/system-upgrade-1-450x131.jpg\" alt=\"system-upgrade-1\" width=\"450\" height=\"131\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/system-upgrade-1-450x131.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/system-upgrade-1.jpg 484w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click the <u>Upgrade<\/u> button and confirm again in next window. Software Updater will fetch and install the files and prompt you to remove unnecessary applications.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/release-note-1510.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/release-note-1510-450x396.jpg\" alt=\"release-note-1510\" width=\"450\" height=\"396\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5353\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/release-note-1510-450x396.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/release-note-1510.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Restart your computer once the upgrade process finished.<\/p>\n<p><b>Upgrade Ubuntu Server:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. Backup your configuration files if you&#8217;re running any services on Ubuntu server.<\/p>\n<p>2. install the update-manager-core via command: <\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install update-manager-core<\/pre>\n<p>3. Edit the config file via below command to make sure there a line says &#8220;Prompt=normal&#8221; (without quotes):<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:None;\">sudo nano \/etc\/update-manager\/release-upgrades<\/pre>\n<p>After editing, press <u>Ctrl+X<\/u> -> type <u>y<\/u> -> finally hit Enter to apply changes.<\/p>\n<p>4.
