Fully shutdown Windows 10, or disable Fast Startup<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Ubuntu Linux can&#8217;t access Win10 system drive because Windows does not fully shut down (it actually hibernates). So you have to choose:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Do a full shutdown<\/b> &#8211; When you&#8217;re in Windows select &#8220;Restart&#8221; option or hold the SHIFT key when clicking &#8220;Shutdown&#8221; option.<\/li>\n<li><b>or Disable Fast Startup<\/b> &#8211; Launch <u>Control Panel<\/u> and do:\n<ul>\n<li>navigate to <u>Power Options<\/u> -> <u>Choose what the power buttons do<\/u><\/li>\n<li>click the link &#8220;Change settings that are currently unavailable&#8221; at the top<\/li>\n<li>uncheck the &#8220;Turn on fast startup&#8221; box under Shutdown settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>2. Add read &#038; write mount permission<\/b><\/p>\n<p>After step 1 you should be able to access your Windows system drive in Ubuntu. But to have write permission, you still need to do:<\/p>\n<p>1. Launch <b>Disks<\/b> utility from Unity Dash or Application Launcher.<\/p>\n<p>2. When it launches, highlight Windows 10 partition (it&#8217;ll be a NTFS partition), then click the gear button and select &#8220;Edit Mount Options&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/edit-mount-option.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/edit-mount-option-450x347.jpg\" alt=\"edit-mount-option\" width=\"450\" height=\"347\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5548\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/edit-mount-option-450x347.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/edit-mount-option-600x463.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/edit-mount-option.jpg 818w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3.
