In the steps below I&#8217;ll show you how to install and use it in Ubuntu Desktop.<\/p>\n<h3>Option 1: Install Fonts for current user only<\/h3>\n<p>If you want to install the fonts for current user use only, then simply open up a &#8220;Files&#8221; (file manager) window, press <b>Ctrl+H<\/b> to show hidden folder, and navigate to <b>.local\/share\/fonts<\/b> (create <code>fonts<\/code> sub-folder if not exist).<\/p>\n<p>Next, drag&#8217;n&#8217;drop your font files into that directory, or a sub-folder of that directory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/local-fonts-directory.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46579\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/local-fonts-directory-700x430.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/local-fonts-directory-700x430.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/local-fonts-directory-300x184.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/local-fonts-directory-768x472.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/local-fonts-directory.webp 1070w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, press <code>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/code> on keyboard to open terminal, and run command to refresh the cache:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo fc-cache -fv<\/pre>\n<p>Next, your system configuration tool can find and allow you to apply the fonts<\/p>\n<h3>Option 2: Manually install Fonts to system wide use<\/h3>\n<p>To install fonts for all users use, do the following steps one by one instead.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Launch Terminal from start menu, or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/ubuntu-terminal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5894\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/ubuntu-terminal-400x200.jpg\" alt=\"ubuntu-terminal\" width=\"400\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/ubuntu-terminal-400x200.jpg 400w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/ubuntu-terminal-600x300.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/ubuntu-terminal.jpg 705w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When it opens, paste following commands and run one by one.<\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> In Ubuntu Linux, font files are installed to <b>\/usr\/local\/share\/fonts<\/b> or <b>\/usr\/share\/fonts<\/b>. The former directory is recommended in this case for manual installation.<\/p>\n<p>First create a sub folder in the font directory, <code>ms_fonts<\/code>, as example:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: none;\">sudo mkdir \/usr\/local\/share\/fonts\/<span style=\"color: red;\">ms_fonts<\/span><\/pre>\n<p>Type in your password when it asks (no visual feedback) and hit Enter.<\/p>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Move all font files from your Downloads directory to the new created folder:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: none;\">sudo mv ~\/Downloads\/*.ttc ~\/Downloads\/*.ttf \/usr\/local\/share\/fonts\/<span style=\"color: red;\">ms_fonts<\/span>\/<\/pre>\n<p><b>4.<\/b> Set permissions to these files by running the commands below one by one:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: none;\">sudo chown root:staff \/usr\/local\/share\/fonts\/<span style=\"color: red;\">ms_fonts<\/span> -R\r\n\r\nsudo chmod 644 \/usr\/local\/share\/fonts\/<span style=\"color: red;\">ms_fonts<\/span>\/* -R\r\n\r\nsudo chmod 755 \/usr\/local\/share\/fonts\/<span style=\"color: red;\">ms_fonts<\/span><\/pre>\n<p><b>5.<\/b> Finally builds font information caches for apps using fontconfig for their font handling:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border: none;\">sudo fc-cache -fv<\/pre>\n<p>Now you can apply new installed fonts via GNOME Tweaks (available in Ubuntu Software \/ App Center) in default GNOME desktop:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/gnome-tweaks-change-font.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46580\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/gnome-tweaks-change-font-700x456.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/gnome-tweaks-change-font-700x456.webp 700w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/gnome-tweaks-change-font-300x195.webp 300w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/gnome-tweaks-change-font-768x500.webp 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/gnome-tweaks-change-font.webp 1088w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Chrome browser, go to Settings -&gt; Advanced settings-&gt; Web contents -&gt; Customize fonts.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Want to install Microsoft fonts, Google web fonts for off-line use, or you just found a favorite font on the web and want to install it in Ubuntu?
