To install the IDE with Ubuntu patch and receive future updates along with other system updates via <b>Software Updater<\/b>, you may use a third-party PPA maintained by <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~mystic-mirage\/+archive\/ubuntu\/pycharm\" target=\"_blank\">Mystic-Mirage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The PPA contains both the Professional and free Community version for Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04, and their derivatives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-splash.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-splash-600x374.jpg\" alt=\"PyCharm IDE\" width=\"600\" height=\"374\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6001\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-splash-600x374.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-splash-450x280.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-splash.jpg 721w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"arconix-box arconix-box-red\"><i class='fa fa-2x pull-left fa-exclamation-triangle'><\/i><div class=\"arconix-box-content\">Mystic-Mirage has stopped updating the PPA, for those sticking to the latest Pycharm Community, use the GetDeb repository instead, see <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2016\/12\/pycharm-2016-3-1-released-install-it-via-getdeb-repository\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/div><\/div>\n<p>1. Add the PPA.<\/p>\n<p>Open terminal and paste (Shift+Ctrl+V) the command below and hit run:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mystic-mirage\/pycharm<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-ppa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-ppa-600x144.jpg\" alt=\"PyCharm PPA\" width=\"600\" height=\"144\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5999\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-ppa-600x144.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-ppa-450x108.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/pycharm-ppa.jpg 830w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Type in your password (no visual feedback) when it asks and hit Enter.<\/p>\n<p>2. Update and install PyCharm.<\/p>\n<p>If you have <i>Synaptic Package Manager<\/i> installed, launch it and then search for and install <i>pycharm<\/i> (or <i>pycharm-community<\/i>) after clicking the Refresh button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/install-pycharm.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/install-pycharm-600x271.jpg\" alt=\"Install PyCharm via Synaptic\" width=\"600\" height=\"271\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/install-pycharm-600x271.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/install-pycharm-450x203.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/install-pycharm.jpg 1058w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Or run the commands below one by one in terminal to install the Professional version:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt update\n\nsudo apt install pycharm<\/pre>\n<p>For the community version, replace the last command with:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt install pycharm-community<\/pre>\n<p>Once a new version is released and made into PPA, you can simply launch <i>Software Updater<\/i> to upgrade it.<\/p>\n<p>3. (Optional) To remove the PPA, go to <i>Software &#038; Updates -> Other Software<\/i> tab. And PyCharm IDE can be removed with <code>apt<\/code> command with <code>remove<\/code> flag:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt remove pycharm pycharm-community<\/pre>\n<p>That&#8217;s it.
