Here&#8217;s how to install it in Ubuntu 16.04 via PPA.<\/p>\n<p>The 3.8 release features the ability to run multiple instances of Audacious. Instances are numbered and can be started with audacious -2, audacious -3, and so on; once running, they can be controlled with audtool -2 <command>, audtool -3 <command>, and so on. Each instance remembers its own configuration.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/audacious-media-player.org\/news\/39-audacious-3-8-released\" target=\"_blank\">Audacious 3.8<\/a> also brings new audtool commands, improvements for Windows support and Cuesheet support, features port to Qt interface, and various bug fixes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>support adding remote folders (ftp, mtp, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>drag &#038; drop from search tool into playlists.<\/li>\n<li>Option to display MMM:SS instead of H:MM:SS<\/li>\n<li>Audio effects and equalization can optionally be applied to a stream recording<\/li>\n<li>Album artist support for FLAC and Vorbis files (read-write)<\/li>\n<li>Support for the freedesktop.org startup notification protocol<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_6282\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/audacious-multi-instances.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6282\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/audacious-multi-instances-600x362.jpg\" alt=\"Audacious 3.8  multiple instances\" width=\"600\" height=\"362\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/audacious-multi-instances-600x362.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/audacious-multi-instances-450x271.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/audacious-multi-instances.jpg 1278w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6282\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Audacious 3.8  multiple instances<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>Install Audacious 3.8 in Ubuntu:<\/h4>\n<div class=\"arconix-box arconix-box-yellow\"><i class='fa fa-2x pull-left fa-lightbulb-o'><\/i><div class=\"arconix-box-content\">The webupd8team has been maintaining the Audacious packages via PPA for very long time. I&#8217;d recommend you to use this PPA though the 3.8 release is not available at the moment, check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~nilarimogard\/+archive\/ubuntu\/webupd8\" target=\"_blank\">PPA page<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Once it&#8217;s available, run the below to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard\/webupd8<\/pre>\n<p>Then upgrade Audacious via Software Updater.<\/div><\/div>\n<p>While Audacious 3.8 is not available in any PPA at the moment, I&#8217;ve uploaded my personal build into PPA, available for Ubuntu 16.04 and Linux Mint:<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> To add the PPA, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type in your password (no visual feedback) when it asks and hit Enter.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/mupdf-unofficial-ppa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/mupdf-unofficial-ppa-600x76.jpg\" alt=\"mupdf-unofficial-ppa\" width=\"600\" height=\"76\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5811\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/mupdf-unofficial-ppa-600x76.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/mupdf-unofficial-ppa-450x57.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/mupdf-unofficial-ppa.jpg 737w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Then launch <b>Software Updater<\/b>, and do &#8220;partial upgrade&#8221; since the 3.8 release uses the new library versions.<\/p>\n<p>Or just run command to install or upgrade Audacious player:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt update && sudo apt install audacious<\/pre>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> (Optional) Uninstall Audacious 3.8 from the PPA and downgrade to the stock version in Ubuntu 16.04, run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Audacious audio player has reached the 3.8 stable release recently.
