Then running system update via <b>Software Updater<\/b> will bring you to the final release of Ubuntu 16.10 on October 13th. <\/p>\n<div class=\"arconix-box arconix-box-red\"><i class='fa fa-2x pull-left fa-exclamation-triangle'><\/i><div class=\"arconix-box-content\">Before upgrading to Ubuntu 16.10, you have to know that:<\/p>\n<p>1. While Ubuntu 16.04 LTS has 5 years support, Ubuntu 16.10 is a short release with 9 months support.<\/p>\n<p>2. It&#8217;s hard to roll back your system to previous 16.04 state after upgrading process without a system reinstall.<\/div><\/div>\n<h4>Preparation<\/h4>\n<p>1. First always backup important data, bookmarks, etc.<\/p>\n<p>2. Launch <b>System Settings -> Software &#038; Updates<\/b> and do:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>disable or remove all third-party repositories on <b>Other Software<\/b> tab.<\/li>\n<li>under <b>Updates<\/b> tab, choose &#8220;For any new version&#8221; after <i>Notify me for a new Ubuntu version<\/i><\/li>\n<li>select Open Source graphic driver in <b>Additional Drivers<\/b> and REBOOT after applied changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/notify-new-release.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/notify-new-release-450x261.jpg\" alt=\"notify-new-release\" width=\"450\" height=\"261\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/notify-new-release-450x261.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/notify-new-release-600x348.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/notify-new-release.jpg 773w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Upgrade Ubuntu Desktop to Ubuntu 16.10:<\/h4>\n<p>1. Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command to update whole system:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade<\/pre>\n<p>2. Follow the wizard and enjoy!<\/p>\n<h4>Upgrade Ubuntu Server to 16.10:<\/h4>\n<p>For Ubuntu server, after making a backup do following steps:<\/p>\n<p>1. Install the <code>update-manager-core<\/code> package if it is not already installed via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt install update-manager-core<\/pre>\n<p>2. Configure update-manager via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo nano \/etc\/update-manager\/release-upgrades<\/pre>\n<p>Change the line &#8220;Prompt=LTS&#8221; to <b>&#8220;Prompt=normal&#8221;<\/b> (without quotes) and save the file.<\/p>\n<p>3.
