{"id":6356,"date":"2016-11-06T06:26:25","date_gmt":"2016-11-06T06:26:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/?p=6356"},"modified":"2016-11-06T06:28:23","modified_gmt":"2016-11-06T06:28:23","slug":"new-pepper-flash-installer-for-chromium-firefox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2016\/11\/new-pepper-flash-installer-for-chromium-firefox\/","title":{"rendered":"New Pepper Flash Installer for Chromium, Firefox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/adobe-flash-icon245.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/adobe-flash-icon245.png\" alt=\"adobe-flash-icon245\" width=\"245\" height=\"250\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6211\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>For Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 14.04, and based systems, a backport of <code>pepperflashplugin-nonfree<\/code> with direct download from Adobe website instead of using Chrome RPM is available to make installing Pepper Flash Player easy again in Chromium based browsers.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Since Google removed the latest PPAPI bundle from Chrome web browser, the Pepper Flash Installer, <code>pepperflashplugin-nonfree<\/code>, available in official Ubuntu repositories does no longer work.<\/p>\n<p>Although you can <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2016\/10\/pepper-flash-chromium-opera-ubuntu\/\" target=\"_blank\">manually download the plugin<\/a>, an updated version of the installer offered by <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~jonathonf\/+archive\/ubuntu\/pepperflashplugin-nonfree\" target=\"_blank\">J Fernyhough<\/a> makes it easier to install the latest PPAPI by downloading it automatically from Adobe website. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/new-pepper-flash-installer.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/new-pepper-flash-installer-600x239.jpg\" alt=\"new-pepper-flash-installer\" width=\"600\" height=\"239\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/new-pepper-flash-installer-600x239.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/new-pepper-flash-installer-450x179.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/new-pepper-flash-installer.jpg 988w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>To install the new pepperflashplugin-nofree:<\/h4>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run the command below to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonathonf\/pepperflashplugin-nonfree<\/pre>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Then update and install the new installer:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt update\n\nsudo apt install pepperflashplugin-nonfree<\/pre>\n<p>For those who don&#8217;t want to add PPA, grab the <b>.deb<\/b> package directly from <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~jonathonf\/+archive\/ubuntu\/pepperflashplugin-nonfree\/+packages\" target=\"_blank\">PPA page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When a new flash release is out, just one command to install the updates:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --install<\/pre>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> The PPA also contains, <code>browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash<\/code>, an adapter to make pepper flash work for Firefox based browsers, install it via:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt install browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash<\/pre>\n<h4>Uninstall:<\/h4>\n<p>To remove the installer, simply run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt remove pepperflashplugin-nonfree browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash && sudo apt autoremove<\/pre>\n<p>And the PPA can be removed by going to System Settings -> Software &#038; Updates -> Other Software tab.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 14.04, and based systems, a backport of pepperflashplugin-nonfree with direct download from Adobe website instead of using Chrome RPM is available to make installing Pepper Flash Player easy again in Chromium based browsers.
