Here&#8217;s how to install it in Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 16.10, and\/or Ubuntu 17.04.<\/p>\n<p>The Ubuntu Budgie team <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntubudgie.org\/blog\/2017\/04\/24\/release-notes-for-budgie-desktop-v-10-3\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> the release of Budgie 10.3 as the final release of the 10.x series. And the Qt 5-based Budgie Desktop 11 is now under development.<\/p>\n<p>Budgie 10.3 features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supports the downloading of artwork for the MprisClient.<\/li>\n<li>New and improved Alt-Tab keyboard app switcher.<\/li>\n<li>Adds a couple of customization options for the Clock Applet.<\/li>\n<li>Option to choose a left or right window button layout.<\/li>\n<li>Various Budgie applets bug fixes and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/budgie-desktop-launcher.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/budgie-desktop-launcher-600x337.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5664\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/budgie-desktop-launcher-600x337.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/budgie-desktop-launcher-450x253.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/budgie-desktop-launcher.jpg 1366w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>How to Install Budgie 10.3 in Ubuntu:<\/h4>\n<p style=\"color:red;\">For Ubuntu 16.04 &#038; Ubuntu 16.10:<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~budgie-remix\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" target=\"_blank\">budgie-remix PPA<\/a> contains the Budgie Desktop 10.3 for Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 16.10 and derivatives.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T or by searching for &#8220;Terminal&#8221; from start menu. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:budgie-remix\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type in your password (no visual feedback due to security reason) when prompts and hit enter.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/budgie-remix-ppa-600x91.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"91\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6745\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/budgie-remix-ppa-600x91.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/budgie-remix-ppa-450x68.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/budgie-remix-ppa.jpg 753w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Then check updates and install the desktop environment via commands:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt update && sudo apt install budgie-desktop budgie-indicator-applet<\/pre>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> After that, you may remove the PPA repository because it contains a newer version of Nautilus for Ubuntu 16.04. To do so, go to System Settings -> Software &#038; Updates -> Other Software tab.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color:red;\">For Ubuntu 17.04:<\/p>\n<p>For Ubuntu 17.04 Zesty, <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntubudgie\/+archive\/ubuntu\/backports\" target=\"_blank\">the backports PPA<\/a> is available. <\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> To add the PPA, open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T and run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntubudgie\/backports<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/budgie-backports-ppa-600x81.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"81\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6746\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/budgie-backports-ppa-600x81.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/budgie-backports-ppa-450x61.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/budgie-backports-ppa.jpg 748w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Then check updates and install the desktop via commands:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt update && sudo apt install budgie-desktop budgie-indicator-applet<\/pre>\n<p>Once installed, log out and choose log in back with Budgie.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/budgie-session.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"295\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/budgie-session.jpg 560w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/budgie-session-450x237.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Uninstall:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To remove the Budgie desktop environment, simply run following command in terminal:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt remove budgie-desktop budgie-indicator-applet && sudo apt autoremove<\/pre>\n<p>To remove the PPAs, go to System Settings -> Software &#038; Updates -> Other Software tab.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Budgie desktop environment 10.3 was released a few days ago.
