Though the PPA only supports Ubuntu 16.10 and Ubuntu 17.04 at the moment, the packages also work in Ubuntu 16.04.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-pro.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-pro-600x355.jpg\" alt=\"PyCharm Professional\" width=\"600\" height=\"355\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6868\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-pro-600x355.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-pro-450x266.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-pro-768x454.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-pro.jpg 1432w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> To add the PPA, open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T and run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:viktor-krivak\/pycharm<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type in your password (no visual feedback) when prompts and hit Enter.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-ppa-zesty-600x80.jpg\" alt=\"PyCharm unofficial PPA\" width=\"600\" height=\"80\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6869\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-ppa-zesty-600x80.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-ppa-zesty-450x60.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/pycharm-ppa-zesty.jpg 743w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Then you can install PyCharm Pro via command (replace <code>pycharm-professional<\/code> with <code>pycharm<\/code> for the community version):<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt update \r\n\r\nsudo apt install pycharm-professional<\/pre>\n<h4>Install PyCharm Pro in Ubuntu 16.04:<\/h4>\n<p>For Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, grab the <b>.deb<\/b> package either for zesty or yakkety from <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~viktor-krivak\/+archive\/ubuntu\/pycharm\/+packages\" target=\"_blank\">PPA packages page<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Then install it either via Gdebi (<i>available in Software Center<\/i>) package installer or by running command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo dpkg -i ~\/Downloads\/pycharm-professional_*.deb; sudo apt -f install<\/pre>\n<p><b>Uninstall:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To remove the PPA repository, go to <i>System Settings -> Software &#038; Updates<\/i> and navigate to <i>Other Software<\/i> tab. <\/p>\n<p>To remove the IDE, either use your system package manager, or run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt remove --autoremove pycharm-professional<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The professional version of PyCharm IDE 2017.1.3 can now be easily installed via a PPA repository (unofficial) in Ubuntu, though there&#8217;s an official Linux tarball available.
