While Ubuntu repositories provide an old version of the software, here&#8217;s how to install the latest release (Picard 1.4.2 so far) in Ubuntu 16.04, and higher.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/picard.musicbrainz.org\/downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\">MusicBrainz Picard<\/a> has an official Ubuntu PPA repository, however, it&#8217;s not been updated for more than a year. It now publishes the official Linux binaries only through Flathub repository.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/musicbrainz-picard.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/musicbrainz-picard-600x390.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"390\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6943\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/musicbrainz-picard-600x390.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/musicbrainz-picard-450x293.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/musicbrainz-picard-768x500.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/musicbrainz-picard.jpg 1036w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Install Flatpak (Ubuntu 16.04 only).<\/p>\n<p>While Ubuntu 16.04 does not ship Flatpak in the default repositories, open terminal via <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> and run commands to install it from <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~alexlarsson\/+archive\/ubuntu\/flatpak\" target=\"_blank\">the PPA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Add the flatpak PPA via command (type your password when prompts and hit enter):\n<pre style=\"border:None;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexlarsson\/flatpak<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/flatpak-ppa-1-600x81.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"81\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6940\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/flatpak-ppa-1-600x81.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/flatpak-ppa-1-450x61.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/flatpak-ppa-1.jpg 745w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Then install flatpak via commands:\n<pre style=\"border:None;\">sudo apt-get update\r\n\r\nsudo apt-get install flatpak<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Add the Flathub repository via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https:\/\/flathub.org\/repo\/flathub.flatpakrepo<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/flathub-repo-600x85.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"85\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6942\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/flathub-repo-600x85.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/flathub-repo-450x64.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/flathub-repo.jpg 745w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Finally grab and install the music tagger via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">flatpak install flathub org.musicbrainz.Picard<\/pre>\n<p>Log out and back in after installation and then launch it from Unity Dash, Gnome launcher and enjoy!<\/p>\n<p><b>Uninstall:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To uninstall the music tagger, run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:None;\">flatpak uninstall --app org.musicbrainz.Picard<\/pre>\n<p>And remove the repository:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">flatpak remote-delete flathub<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MusicBrainz Picard is an open-source cross-platform music tagger written in Python.
