So far the latest is version 2017.1.5 that was released more than a week ago with some bug-fixes and performance updates.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/intellij-idea-u.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/intellij-idea-u-600x369.jpg\" alt=\"intelliJ IDEA ultimate \" width=\"600\" height=\"369\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6970\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/intellij-idea-u-600x369.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/intellij-idea-u-450x276.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/intellij-idea-u-768x472.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/intellij-idea-u.jpg 1276w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>While the official Linux binaries lack application launcher integration, <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~mmk2410\/+archive\/ubuntu\/intellij-idea\" target=\"_blank\">Marcel Kapfer<\/a> made an installer script that automatically downloads the source tarball from JetBrains server, installs it to \/opt\/, and finally creates an app launcher.<\/b><\/p>\n<h4>Install the script:<\/h4>\n<p>For all current Ubuntu releases, including Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 16.10, Ubuntu 17.04, and derivatives, I&#8217;ve made the new script into PPA since the original maintainer does not update the latest release at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>Download the latest script from the link below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ppa.launchpad.net\/ubuntuhandbook1\/apps\/ubuntu\/pool\/main\/i\/intellij-idea-community\/\" target=\"_blank\">intellij-idea-community_xxxx.xx-1_all.deb (community version)<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ppa.launchpad.net\/ubuntuhandbook1\/apps\/ubuntu\/pool\/main\/i\/intellij-idea-ultimate\/\" target=\"_blank\">intellij-idea-ultimate_xxxx.xx_all.deb (ultimate edition)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T or by searching for it from app launcher, and run command to install the script:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo dpkg -i ~\/Downloads\/intellij-idea-community_*_all.deb<\/pre>\n<p><i>replace <code>community<\/code> in the command with <code>ultimate<\/code> for ultimate version.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/install-intellij-idea-community.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/install-intellij-idea-community-600x368.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"368\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6971\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/install-intellij-idea-community-600x368.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/install-intellij-idea-community-450x276.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/install-intellij-idea-community.jpg 754w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once installed, launch the IDE from your app launcher and enjoy!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/launcher-intellij-idea.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"542\" height=\"309\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6972\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/launcher-intellij-idea.jpg 542w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/launcher-intellij-idea-450x257.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 542px) 100vw, 542px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For those who want to upgrade the IDE through <b>Software Updater<\/b> (Update Manager), add the PPA repository via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:None;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This quick tutorial is going to show you how to install the IntelliJ IDEA IDE, both community and ultimate editions, via PPA in all current Ubuntu releases.
