Here&#8217;s how to install it in Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 17.04, and their derivatives.<\/p>\n<p>Changes in <a href=\"https:\/\/kodi.tv\/article\/kodi-v174-final-just-bunch-fixes\" target=\"_blank\">Kodi 17.4<\/a> include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Potentially fix crashing on Windows due to an issue in Python<\/li>\n<li>Potentially fix crashing on Windows when enabling zeroconf<\/li>\n<li>Fix sporadic crash on Windows when installing or updating add-ons <\/li>\n<li>Fix issue for users with reverse proxies attempting to forward websockets.<\/li>\n<li>Fix possible issue if Linux distro uses system ffmpeg and cause black screen with 10-bit H.265<\/li>\n<li>Properly throttle scraping music information online to prevent overloading the provider<\/li>\n<li>Fix native keyboard on iOS 11<\/li>\n<li>Fix potential crash on Android O loading App icons<\/li>\n<li>Fix non showing Kodi banner on Android O<\/li>\n<li>Fix potential crash on Android with certain keymaps<\/li>\n<li>Fix wrong detection of VP6 and VP8 videocodec on Android<\/li>\n<li>Update FFmpeg to 3.1.9<\/li>\n<li>Set hard requirement to use FFmpeg 3.1.x only<\/li>\n<li>Fix for Hangup when viewing recording and pressing next\/previous<\/li>\n<li>Fix merged scraped album type and label correctly with that derived from tags from music files<\/li>\n<li>Fix possible crash on Linux when using ALSA<\/li>\n<li>Save skin settings immediatly after they have changed instead of only on shutdown<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How to Install Kodi 17.4 in Ubuntu:<\/h4>\n<p>Kodi has an <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~team-xbmc\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ppa\" target=\"_blank\">official PPA<\/a> that contains the latest packages for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04, and Ubuntu 17.04.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T or by searching it from app launcher. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p><i>Input your password (no visual feedback while typing) when it asks and hit Enter.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/kodi-ppa-xenial-600x84.jpg\" alt=\"kodi ppa\" width=\"600\" height=\"84\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6537\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/kodi-ppa-xenial-600x84.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/kodi-ppa-xenial-450x63.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/kodi-ppa-xenial.jpg 756w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> For those who have previous release installed, upgrade the media center via Software Updater:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/upgrade-kodi-450x314.jpg\" alt=\"upgrade Kodi\" width=\"450\" height=\"314\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6538\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/upgrade-kodi-450x314.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/upgrade-kodi-600x419.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/upgrade-kodi.jpg 740w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>or run commands to check updates and install kodi:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get update\r\n\r\nsudo apt-get install kodi<\/pre>\n<p>Once installed, log out and log in back with Kodi session, or launch Kodi from Unity Dash, Gnome app launcher, or other app launcher.<\/p>\n<p><b>Uninstall:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Run command to purge the PPA which also downgrade Kodi to its stock version in your Ubuntu:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:None;\">sudo apt-get install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:team-xbmc\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p>To remove kodi, either use your system package manager or run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get remove --autoremove kodi<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kodi media center, formerly known as XBMC, reached the 17.4 release a few days ago with a bunch of bug-fixes.
