You can install both or either one via following steps.<\/div><\/div>\n<p><b>Install Blender in Ubuntu via Snap:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Blender 2.79 is also available as snap package, which is large in file, but bundles almost all required libraries. Available for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04, and higher.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> For Ubuntu 14.04 only, install <code>snapd<\/code> daemon if you don&#8217;t have it:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install snapd xdg-open-snapd<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/install-snapd-xdg-600x89.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"89\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6976\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/install-snapd-xdg-600x89.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/install-snapd-xdg-450x67.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/install-snapd-xdg.jpg 709w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> If you have installed the snap package &#8220;blender-tpaw&#8221; (2.78c so far), first remove it via:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo snap remove blender-tpaw<\/pre>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Finally run command to install blender 2.79 snap maintained by another guy:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo snap install blender --classic<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/blender-snap-classic-600x87.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"87\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/blender-snap-classic-600x87.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/blender-snap-classic-450x65.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/blender-snap-classic.jpg 741w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Install Blender 2.79 via PPA in Ubuntu:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~thomas-schiex\/+archive\/ubuntu\/blender\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas Schiex&#8217;s PPA<\/a> contains the Blender packages for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 17.04. <\/p>\n<p><i>NOTE that Blender 2.79 is not ready in the PPA at the moment of writing. Be patient, it will be there in a few days.<\/i><\/p>\n<div class=\"arconix-box arconix-box-red\"><i class='fa fa-2x pull-left fa-exclamation-triangle'><\/i><div class=\"arconix-box-content\">The PPA is abandoned, see <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2021\/06\/install-blender-2-93-ppa-ubuntu-20-04\/\">this tutorial instead<\/a>.<\/div><\/div>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T or from app launcher.
