As expect, Fn + function keys are not working after installing Ubuntu 16.04 on it.<\/p>\n<p>So below is the quick fix how to enable the Fn keys on this laptop which may work also on other HP essential laptops.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> First open terminal either via <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> or by searching for &#8216;terminal&#8217; from app launcher. When it opens, run command:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo -H gedit \/etc\/default\/grub<\/pre>\n<p><i>Input your password (no visual feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> The command opens the grub configuration file with gedit text editor.<\/p>\n<p>There find out the line says:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"background:none;\">GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=\"quiet splash\"<\/pre>\n<p>and change it into:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"background:none;\">GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=\"quiet splash <b>acpi_osi=<\/b>\"<\/pre>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/grub-acpi.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/grub-acpi-600x356.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"356\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/grub-acpi-600x356.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/grub-acpi-450x267.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/grub-acpi-768x456.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/grub-acpi.jpg 777w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> After saving the changes. Update grub bootloader via command and reboot:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo update-grub<\/pre>\n<p><b>4.
