This quick tutorial is going to show you how to install the latest version of Remmina remote desktop client<\/b> in Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 16.04.<\/p>\n

Remmina is the default GTK+ remote desktop client shipped with Ubuntu desktop. It currently supports RDP, VNC, SPICE, NX, XDMCP, SSH and EXEC.<\/p>\n

While distro’s builds of Remmina are always old, the upstream developers offers two ways to install the latest Remmina in Ubuntu.<\/p>\n

Install Remmina via Snap in Ubuntu:<\/h4>\n

The software is now available as snap, an universal Linux package that will be updated automatically and will include both latest FreeRDP<\/code> git and latest libssh 0.7<\/code> release.<\/p>\n

Simply open Ubuntu Software<\/b> search for and install “Remmina”. And yes, there are two Remmina packages<\/b>, one is pre-installed, the other is the snap package.<\/p>\n

You can alternatively run command in terminal to install the snap version of Remmina:<\/p>\n

snap install remmina<\/pre>\n

For advanced features, (e.g., manage mount positions, servers discovery, manage printing, use gnome-keyring), run following commands one by one:<\/p>\n
sudo snap connect remmina:avahi-observe :avahi-observe\r\n\r\nsudo snap connect remmina:cups-control :cups-control\r\n\r\nsudo snap connect remmina:mount-observe :mount-observe\r\n\r\nsudo snap connect remmina:password-manager-service :password-manager-service<\/pre>\n
Install Remmina via PPA in Ubuntu:<\/h4>\n
If you don’t prefer Snap package, you can upgrade the pre-installed Remmina via the PPA repository<\/a>.<\/p>\n
1.<\/b> Open terminal either via Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> or by searching for ‘terminal’ from app launcher. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:remmina-ppa-team\/remmina-next<\/pre>\n
Type your password (no asterisks feedback while typing) when it prompts and hit Enter.<\/i><\/p>\n

2.<\/b> Then upgrade Remmina either via Software Updater<\/b>, or run commands:<\/p>\n
