Now in Ubuntu 18.04 this can be done via a Gnome shell extension.<\/p>\n<p>The Gnome shell extension system is a replacement for the &#8220;applets&#8221; or &#8220;widgets&#8221; system. Extensions can add their own items to the top panel.
