Here&#8217;s how to install it in Ubuntu 18.04 while the PPSSPP stable PPA still has v1.5.4 packages.<\/p>\n<p>PPSSPP 1.6 release highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>OpenGL backend now properly multithreaded, giving a good speed boost.<\/li>\n<li>Various Vulkan performance improvements and memory allocation fixes.<\/li>\n<li>GPU command interpreter performance improvements<\/li>\n<li>Various fixes for app switching and widgets on Android<\/li>\n<li>Bugfixes and some performance improvements in the ARM64 JIT compiler and IR interpreter<\/li>\n<li>Shader cache enabled for Vulkan<\/li>\n<li>Multiple iOS fixes, including JIT and file browser.<\/li>\n<li>Improved compatibility on Mac<\/li>\n<li>Texture replacement ID bugfix (note: some textures from 1.5.4 may become incompatible)<\/li>\n<li>Adhoc multiplayer fixes<\/li>\n<li>Vulkan support on Linux\/SDL<\/li>\n<li>Retroarch support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ppsspp-163-600x387.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"387\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ppsspp-163-600x387.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ppsspp-163-450x290.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ppsspp-163-768x495.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ppsspp-163.jpg 1012w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~samoilov-lex\/+archive\/ubuntu\/retrogames\" target=\"_blank\">RetroGames PPA<\/a> contains the latest release of PPSSPP (1.6.3 so far) for Ubuntu 18.04 and Linux Mint 19.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arconix-box arconix-box-red\"><i class='fa fa-2x pull-left fa-exclamation-triangle'><\/i><div class=\"arconix-box-content\">NOTE that the <a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2018\/09\/ppsspp-1-6-3-available-install-official-ppa\/\" target=\"_blank\">OFFICIAL PPSSPP PPA<\/a> has updated the latest packages for all current Ubuntu releases.<\/div><\/div>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal either via <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> shortcut key or by searching for &#8216;terminal&#8217; from app launcher. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ppsspp\/stable<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type your password (no asterisks feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ppsspp-ppa-600x89.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"89\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ppsspp-ppa-600x89.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ppsspp-ppa-450x67.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ppsspp-ppa.jpg 751w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Then you can install PPSSPP via command in Ubuntu 18.04:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install ppsspp<\/pre>\n<p>For sdl version, replace <code>ppsspp<\/code> with <code>ppsspp-sdl<\/code> in the last command.<\/p>\n<h4>Uninstall:<\/h4>\n<p>To remove the PPA, open <b>Software &#038; Updates<\/b> and navigate to <b>Other Software<\/b> tab.<\/p>\n<p>To remove PPSSPP, run command in terminal:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get remove --autoremove ppsspp ppsspp-*<\/pre>\n<p><del><b>In addition<\/b>, for those who care about the versioning issue, I&#8217;ve re-uploaded PPSSPP 1.6.3 (<i>based on RetroGames PPA package<\/i>) into my personal PPA for Ubuntu 18.04 with the issue fixed.<\/del><\/p>\n<p><del>You need to remove previous PPA and PPSSPP packages before installing the new one:<\/del><\/p>\n<p><del>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1\/apps<\/p>\n<p>sudo apt-get install ppsspp<\/del><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sony PSP emulator PPSSPP 1.6 stable was released a few months ago.
