Here&#8217;s how to install it in Ubuntu 18.04.<\/p>\n<p>VS Code 1.28 release highlights according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/code.visualstudio.com\/updates\/v1_28\" target=\"_blank\">announcement<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>VS Code now ships custom icons reflect file type in your OS explorer.<\/li>\n<li>Snippets can now be scoped to a project and shared with your team.<\/li>\n<li>Editor Tab completion can now complete all kind of suggestions.<\/li>\n<li>New command to go to the location of your last edit.<\/li>\n<li>New command <code>Save without Formatting<\/code> to save a file without triggering any of the save participants<\/li>\n<li>Rename a JS\/TS file through it&#8217;s import path.<\/li>\n<li>The new Convert to async function suggestion for JavaScript and TypeScript rewrites functions that use .then Promise chaining to use async and await<\/li>\n<li>Git improvements: better delete conflict handling, new rebase on sync option.<\/li>\n<li>Better Markdown folding: collapse code blocks, multi-line lists, and embedded HTML.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How to Install VS Code 1.28 in Ubuntu:<\/h4>\n<p>The easiest way is to install the community maintained Snap (run in sandbox) package from <b>Ubuntu Software<\/b>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vscode-softwarecenter-450x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"286\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vscode-softwarecenter-450x286.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vscode-softwarecenter-768x489.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vscode-softwarecenter-600x382.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/vscode-softwarecenter.jpg 880w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can also install the official <b>.deb<\/b> package which is available for download at the link below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href='https:\/\/code.visualstudio.com\/Download' class='arconix-button arconix-button-medium arconix-button-gray' target=\"_blank\" >Download VS Code (.deb)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Grab the deb and install it via either Gdebi package manager or command in terminal(Ctrl+Alt+T):<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo dpkg -i ~\/Downloads\/code_*.deb; sudo apt -f install<\/pre>\n<p>For those who want to receive updates for VS Code via Software Updater utility, add the Microsoft repository via following steps (64bit only):<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command to add the repository:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo sh -c 'echo \"deb [arch=amd64] https:\/\/packages.microsoft.com\/repos\/vscode stable main\" > \/etc\/apt\/sources.list.d\/vscode.list'<\/pre>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Download and install the repository key via commands:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">curl https:\/\/packages.microsoft.com\/keys\/microsoft.asc | gpg --dearmor > microsoft.gpg\r\n\r\nsudo mv microsoft.gpg \/etc\/apt\/trusted.gpg.d\/microsoft.gpg<\/pre>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Finally install the IDE via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install code<\/pre>\n<p><b>Uninstall Visual Studio Code:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To remove the code editor, either use Synaptic Package Manager or run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get remove --autoremove code<\/pre>\n<p>And remove the Microsoft repository by launching <b>Software &#038; Updates<\/b> utility and navigating to <i>Other Software<\/i> tab.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft Visual Studio Code 1.28 was released a few days ago.
