{"id":8245,"date":"2018-10-12T13:32:13","date_gmt":"2018-10-12T13:32:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/?p=8245"},"modified":"2018-10-12T13:32:13","modified_gmt":"2018-10-12T13:32:13","slug":"mesa-18-2-2-available-install-ubuntu-18-04","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2018\/10\/mesa-18-2-2-available-install-ubuntu-18-04\/","title":{"rendered":"Mesa 18.2.2 Available to Install in Ubuntu 18.04 via PPA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/opengl-logo245.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"250\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6802\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The latest Mesa graphics driver 18.2.2 is finally available to install in Ubuntu 18.04 via <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntu-x-swat\/+archive\/ubuntu\/updates\" target=\"_blank\">Ubuntu-X PPA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mesa3d.org\/relnotes\/18.2.2.html\" target=\"_blank\">Mesa 18.2.2<\/a> was released a week ago with following changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Better GTA V support with the RADV Vulkan driver.<\/li>\n<li>RADV fix to address a GPU hang encountered by Radeon RX Vega hardware with SteamVR. <\/li>\n<li>vkAcquireNextImage2 support within the ANV and RADV Vulkan drivers.<\/li>\n<li>ANV now has support for protected memory properties via GetPhysicalDeviceProperties2(). <\/li>\n<li>The Gallium3D Nine &#8220;D3D9&#8221; state tracker has increased the number of temp registers as well as other improvements. <\/li>\n<li>A new PCI ID added for a Polaris part: 0x6FDF.<\/li>\n<li>And various bug-fixes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How to Install Mesa 18.2.2 in Ubuntu 18.04:<\/h4>\n<p>To install the latest Mesa driver, e.g., for gaming, open terminal and do following steps one by one<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal by either pressing <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard or searching for &#8216;Terminal&#8217; from software launcher. When it opens, run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat\/updates<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type your password (no asterisks feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mesa-ppa-bionic-600x89.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"89\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7786\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mesa-ppa-bionic-600x89.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mesa-ppa-bionic-450x67.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mesa-ppa-bionic.jpg 748w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> After adding the PPA, do system update via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get dist-upgrade<\/pre>\n<p><i><code>apt-get update<\/code> is not required any more in Ubuntu 18.04 since adding PPA automatically refreshes system repositories.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Finally check your driver version via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">glxinfo | grep \"OpenGL version\"<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/mesa1822-600x106.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"106\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/mesa1822-600x106.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/mesa1822-450x80.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/mesa1822.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Uninstall:<\/h4>\n<p>To restore changes and downgrade to the default drives shipped in Ubuntu 18.04, run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntu-x-swat\/updates<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest Mesa graphics driver 18.2.2 is finally available to install in Ubuntu 18.04 via Ubuntu-X PPA.
