Here&#8217;s the changes according to the NEWS file:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use adaptive chunk size instead in GimpProjection when rendering the projection asynchronously, to provide a better trade-off between throughput and responsiveness dynamically, based on how fast the processing is.<\/li>\n<li>In all selection tools, show error on attempt to subtract-from\/intersect-with empty selection.<\/li>\n<li>Fix text along path not working with vertical text.<\/li>\n<li>Fix Text tool&#8217;s frame position when undoing a move operation.<\/li>\n<li>Streamline Text tool&#8217;s drawing blocking\/unblocking logic.<\/li>\n<li>When moving a text layer using the text tool (through alt+drag), don&#8217;t change the layer&#8217;s box mode to &#8220;fixed&#8221;, which is unnecessary, since the layer&#8217;s size isn&#8217;t affected.<\/li>\n<li>Transform and deformation operations now maintain color for fully transparent pixels, making unerase and curves manipulation of alpha channel more reliable.<\/li>\n<li>All transform tools now apply changes when you save or export\/overwrite an image without pressing Enter first to confirm changes.<\/li>\n<li>Fix wrong application position when painting on a drawable whose origin is above\/to the left of the image&#8217;s origin, and there&#8217;s a selection active.<\/li>\n<li>Port all plug-ins to the new iterator API in GEGL.<\/li>\n<li>Improve automatic detection of HEIC\/HEIF files.<\/li>\n<li>Improve RawTherapee discovery by looking up registry key<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How to Install GIMP 2.10.8 in Ubuntu:<\/h4>\n<p>The latest GIMP Ubuntu packages will be available via following 3 ways: (Be patient, the packages will be available in a few days):<\/p>\n<p><b>Method 1. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~otto-kesselgulasch\/+archive\/ubuntu\/gimp\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Otto Meier&#8217;s PPA<\/a> maintains most recent GIMP packages for Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 18.10. <\/p>\n<p>Adding the PPA (<i>open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T and run command<\/i>) allows to upgrade the stock GIMP version to the latest.<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch\/gimp<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/gimp-ppa-bionic-600x79.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"79\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7704\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/gimp-ppa-bionic-600x79.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/gimp-ppa-bionic-450x59.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/gimp-ppa-bionic.jpg 742w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Method 2.<\/b> GIMP also available Snap, containerized software package, for Ubuntu 16.04 and higher.<\/p>\n<p>You can check available GIMP snap package version via command: <code>snap find gimp<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>To install the snap package, simply search for and install <b>GIMP snap<\/b> from Ubuntu Software.
