It was stuck at the purple screen with Ubuntu logo in center for more than 1 minute before booting into the login screen.<\/p>\n<p>When it was booting into the purple screen, press <b>F2<\/b> to show the white and black text screen. There it told me that it was stuck at:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<b>A start job is running for dev-disk-by\\x2uuid &#8230;(35s \\ 1min 30s)<\/b>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/startjobrunning.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/startjobrunning-600x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"200\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8961\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/startjobrunning-600x200.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/startjobrunning-450x150.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/startjobrunning-768x256.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/startjobrunning.jpg 936w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To fix the problem, do following steps one by one:<\/p>\n<p><b>UPDATE:<\/b> First make a back up of \/etc\/fstab before editing the file by running command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo cp \/etc\/fstab \/etc\/fstab-backup<\/pre>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal from application menu or by pressing <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> on keyboard. When it opens, run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo -H gedit \/etc\/fstab<\/pre>\n<p>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it prompts. It will open fstab (file system table) configuration file with gedit text editor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/edit-fstab-600x110.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"110\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8962\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/edit-fstab-600x110.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/edit-fstab-450x83.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/edit-fstab.jpg 752w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> When the file opens, you&#8217;ll see something look like this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/etcfstab.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/etcfstab-600x345.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"345\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8963\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/etcfstab-600x345.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/etcfstab-450x259.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/etcfstab-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/etcfstab.jpg 901w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As the top picture shows, &#8220;UUID=1cdb9a5b-01a7-4b7b-a0ad-ce73676bb7c1&#8221;, mounting the <b>Swap partition<\/b> takes 1 minute and 30 seconds to boot up Ubuntu.<\/p>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Launch <b>Disks<\/b> utility from application menu.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/launch-disks-450x234.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"234\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8964\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/launch-disks-450x234.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/launch-disks.jpg 488w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>4.<\/b> When it opens, check the Swap partition, and it obviously that the UUID value does not match the one in <b>\/etc\/fstab<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/disks-swapuuid.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/disks-swapuuid-600x386.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"386\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8965\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/disks-swapuuid-600x386.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/disks-swapuuid-450x290.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/disks-swapuuid-768x494.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/disks-swapuuid.jpg 847w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>5.<\/b> So what I need to do here is to replace the UUID value with the correct one copied from Disks utility.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/correct-uuid.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/correct-uuid-600x288.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"288\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8966\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/correct-uuid-600x288.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/correct-uuid-450x216.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/correct-uuid-768x368.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/correct-uuid.jpg 863w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, save the file and reboot.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ubuntu 18.04 is quite slow to boot up in my laptop in the last few days.
