{"id":9258,"date":"2019-08-16T14:24:02","date_gmt":"2019-08-16T14:24:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/?p=9258"},"modified":"2019-08-16T14:24:02","modified_gmt":"2019-08-16T14:24:02","slug":"mesa-19-1-4-available-to-install-in-ubuntu-18-04-19-04","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/index.php\/2019\/08\/mesa-19-1-4-available-to-install-in-ubuntu-18-04-19-04\/","title":{"rendered":"Mesa 19.1.4 Available to Install in Ubuntu 18.04 \/ 19.04"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/opengl-logo245.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"250\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6802\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mesa 3D graphics library 19.1.4, which was released a week ago, now is made into PPA for Ubuntu 18.04, and Ubuntu 19.04.<\/p>\n<p>For those sticking to the open-source RadeonSI \/ RADV \/ Intel \/ Nouveau drivers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mesa3d.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mesa 19.1.4<\/a> is the latest stable release with following release highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nVulkan 24\/48 bit formats are now not supported on Ivybridge.<\/li>\n<li>\nR8G8B8_UNORM_SRGB is not supported on Haswell.<\/li>\n<li>A fix for hair artifacts in Max Payne 3 on AMD\/RADV.<\/li>\n<li>Vulkan transform feedback extension is disabled on Intel gen7.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Canonical&#8217;s Timo Aaltonen has made Mesa 19.1.4 package into <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~ubuntu-x-swat\/+archive\/ubuntu\/updates\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cUbuntu-X\u201d team PPA<\/a>, available to install in Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 19.04.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal either via <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> keyboard shortcut or by searching for &#8216;terminal&#8217; from application menu. When it opens, run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat\/updates<\/pre>\n<p><i>Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter to continue.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mesa-ppa-bionic-600x89.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"89\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7786\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mesa-ppa-bionic-600x89.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mesa-ppa-bionic-450x67.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/mesa-ppa-bionic.jpg 748w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> After adding the PPA, do system update via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get dist-upgrade<\/pre>\n<p><i><code>apt-get update<\/code> is not required any more in Ubuntu 18.04 since adding PPA automatically refreshes system package cache.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>3.<\/b> Finally check your driver version via command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">glxinfo | grep \"OpenGL version\"<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/mesa1914-600x122.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"122\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/mesa1914-600x122.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/mesa1914-450x91.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/mesa1914.jpg 714w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Uninstall:<\/h4>\n<p>To restore changes and downgrade to the default drives shipped in Ubuntu 18.04, run command:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo apt-get install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntu-x-swat\/updates<\/pre>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mesa 3D graphics library 19.1.4, which was released a week ago, now is made into PPA for Ubuntu 18.04, and Ubuntu 19.04.
