Here&#8217;s how to install it in Ubuntu 18.04, Linux Mint 19.x.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ffmpeg.org\/download.html#release_4.2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FFmpeg 4.2<\/a>, codename &#8220;Ada&#8221;, is a major release that features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>tpad filter, dedot filter, freezedetect filter, lagfun filter, asoftclip filter, colorhold filter, xmedian filter, asr filter, derain filter, deesser filter, anlmdn filter, maskfun filter<\/li>\n<li>chromashift and rgbashift filters, truehd_core bitstream filter, AV1 frame split bitstream filter, showspatial multimedia filter<\/li>\n<li>dhav demuxer, vividas demuxer, KUX demuxer, IFV demuxer<\/li>\n<li>hymt decoder, ARBC decoder, agm decoder, lscr decoder, VP4 video decoder, hcom demuxer and decoder<\/li>\n<li>PCM-DVD encoder<\/li>\n<li>GIF parser<\/li>\n<li>removed libndi-newtek<\/li>\n<li>libaribb24 based ARIB STD-B24 caption support (profiles A and C)<\/li>\n<li>Support decoding of HEVC 4:4:4 content in vdpau, nvdec and cuviddec<\/li>\n<li>AV1 decoding support through libdav1d<\/li>\n<li>mov muxer writes tracks with unspecified language instead of English by default<\/li>\n<li>added support for using clang to compile CUDA kernels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How to Install FFmpeg 4.2 in Ubuntu:<\/h4>\n<div class=\"arconix-box arconix-box-yellow\"><i class='fa fa-2x pull-left fa-lightbulb-o'><\/i><div class=\"arconix-box-content\">Updated with new PPA, since the previous PPA has been removed as a protest against the abuse of open-source projects by large companies.<\/div><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~savoury1\/+archive\/ubuntu\/ffmpeg4\" target=\"_blank\">unofficial PPA<\/a> has built the packages for Ubuntu 18.04 and its derivatives.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> Open terminal either via <b>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/b> keyboard shortcut, or by searching for &#8216;terminal&#8217; from application menu. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1\/ffmpeg4<\/pre>\n<p><i> Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/ffmpeg4ppa-600x104.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"104\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9626\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/ffmpeg4ppa-600x104.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/ffmpeg4ppa-450x78.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/ffmpeg4ppa.jpg 751w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<\/b> Two more PPAs are required for the dependencies.
