The <b>dual-boot (or triple-boot) operating system is no longer available<\/b> when you press <code>Shift<\/code> (or <code>Esc<\/code>) to show the menu entry.<\/p>\n<p>It seems to be a grub2 package issue in the recent update, though I&#8217;m not sure. And <code>sudo update-grub<\/code> can&#8217;t detect operating systems outside the current Ubuntu release.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/update-grub2-bionic-600x279.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"279\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9617\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/update-grub2-bionic.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/update-grub2-bionic-450x209.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you happened to have the similar issue, try following steps to fix the problem.<\/p>\n<p><b>1.)<\/b> Open <u>terminal<\/u> and run following commands one by one to install <a href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/~danielrichter2007\/+archive\/ubuntu\/grub-customizer\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">grub-customizer<\/a>:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"border:none;\">sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007\/grub-customizer\r\n\r\nsudo apt update\r\n\r\nsudo apt install grub-customizer<\/pre>\n<p>For <b>Ubuntu 19.04<\/b> and higher, grub-customizer can be easily installed from Ubuntu Software.<\/p>\n<p><b>2.)<\/b> Launch Grub Customizer. When it opens, do:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>navigate to <b>General Settings<\/b> tab.<\/li>\n<li>check the first two check-boxes under visibility to show menu, check for other OSes.<\/li>\n<li>click on the <b>Save<\/b> button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grubcus-showmenu-600x346.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"346\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9618\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grubcus-showmenu-600x346.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grubcus-showmenu-450x259.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grubcus-showmenu-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grubcus-showmenu.jpg 870w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>3.)<\/b> After saving the changes, navigate to &#8216;<i>List configuration<\/i>&#8216; tab, and click on <b>Refresh<\/b> button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grub-cus-resfresh-600x318.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"318\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9619\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grub-cus-resfresh-600x318.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grub-cus-resfresh-450x238.jpg 450w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grub-cus-resfresh-768x407.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ubuntuhandbook.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/grub-cus-resfresh.jpg 869w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Grub2 boot-loader should finally list all available operating systems menu entries in the next startup.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After installing recent updates in my Ubuntu 18.04 via Software Updater, Grub2 boot-loader menu is not showing on startup.
