Apps Updates Round-up #1: Xournal++ 1.2.6, qBittorrent 5.0.4 & More

Many free open-source apps/projects got updates in past week. They include KDE Plasma 6.3 features panel clone and pixel perfect KWin zoom, GNOME 48 Beta with screen time and HDR settings support.

There are as well GIMP 3.0 RC3 with official AppImage support, Go lang 1.24 features full generic type aliases, and TLP 1.8.0 that supports charging threshold for DELL, Chromebook, and Framework laptops.

Others are mostly maintenance updates, such as Darktable 5.0.1 with fixes and new cameras support, gThumb 3.12.7 with improved WebP support, and HandBrake 1.9.1 with fixes.

Some updates are small, so I collected them into this one post below.

1. Xournal++ 1.2.6

Xournal++ 1.2.6 is minor release with only few bug-fixes. They are:

  • Fixed a weird behaviour when drawing the outline of the compass multiple times.
  • Exposed selected text to the windowing system for accessibility purposes.
  • MacOS: Fixed loading of jpeg images from the PDF background.
  • MacOS: Fixed CJK and Cyrillic font rendering.

2. qBittorrent 5.0.4

qBittorrent 5.0.4 was released few days ago with some fixes and improvements. According to the changelog, they are:

  • Fix cannot remove trackers via WebAPI.
  • Fix torrent content checkbox state under certain conditions.
  • Hide zero and infinity values in peer list only when that setting is set to ‘Always’.
  • Remove stopped torrent from “error” tracker filter.
  • Fix memory leak in context menus for WebUI.
  • WEBAPI: Don’t trim string parameters.
  • Handle Qt style options uniformly in Windows.
  • Update Portuguese translation.
  • Avoid memory leak in macOS.

To get qBittorrent 5.0.4, go to its download page. For Linux, there are universal Flatpak package runs in sandbox, and an official PPA for Ubuntu 24.10.

3. Firefox 135.0.1

Firefox web browser released version 135.0.1 few days ago with some bug-fixes. They include:

  • Fixed drop-down menus being unusable on some sites relying on certain mousemove event behavior.
  • Fixed scrolling to the wrong location with anchor tags in some situations.
  • Fixed being unable to restore closed windows and tabs via the History menu when upgrading from an older Firefox version.
  • Fixed broken search functionality when updating to Firefox 135 with a custom search engine with an overly-large icon installed.

Ubuntu has updated the pre-installed Firefox package to the new release, though there are alternative packages available for choice, such as MozillaTeam PPA and Mozilla’s own apt repository.

4. Thunderbird 128.7.1esr

Like Firefox, Thunberbird email client also got updates almost every week. The last version is Thunderbird 128.7.1esr released 2 days with just fixes for following issues:

  • Users may not have been notified if messages arrived in multiple folders at once.
  • Message list scrolled to the wrong place on start-up.
  • Unified folders could become unusable instead of being automatically rebuilt.
  • Some messages may have been threaded incorrectly in unified folders.
  • Middle-click autoscroll cursor appeared without arrows instead of expected design.

Ubuntu has updated the Thunderbird packages to the new release for Ubuntu 24.04 and higher. And MozillaTeam PPA has built the packages or Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, and newer Ubuntu releases don’t like Snap package.

5. FreeFileSync 14.2

FreeFileSync, the folder comparison and synchronization software, released 14.1 yesterday then 14.2 with quick fix today. Changes in the release include:

  • Further dark mode improvements.
  • Fixed blurry icons due to image resizing glitch.
  • Fixed RealTimeSync process not exiting while in taskbar.
  • Improved file icon loading performance.
  • Improved extension handling for multi-file renaming.
  • Mitigate icon size rendering bug for notification emails.
  • Close popup dialogs using Ctrl+Enter while ignoring keyboard focus.
  • Resume from system tray via single mouse click.
  • Avoid white flash when resuming progress dialog from system tray (Windows).
  • Increased progress indicator UI update frequency.
  • Fixed crash when closing progress dialog after sync (Windows)
