The release improved user experience for enlarging and enhancing low-resolution images by new AI module and improved module selection dialog.

Instead of choosing from drop-down box, it now shows a pop-up screen. From where you may choose between modules with image previews.

Ruby, the free open-source high-level general-purpose programming language, released new 3.4.0 (then 3.4.1 with quick fix) today at Christmas!

The release introduced it block parameter reference, which behaves very much the same as _1. As the feature request descripted:

it is implemented as a special case of getlocal insn, not a method. it without an argument is considered _1 or a normal local variable if defined. it is considered a method call only when it has any positional/keyword/block arguments.

Mixxx, the free and open-source DJ software, released new major 2.5.0 version today!

The new release now uses Qt6 by default for its user interface, offering improved performance and enhanced compatibility with modern systems. Qt5 is still supported, but will be removed in the next 2.6 release series.

Probably due to this change, Ubuntu 20.04 is no longer officially supported, though user can choose to use the Flatpak package run in sandbox environment.

OpenShot, the free open-source beginner friendly video editor, released new 3.3 version yesterday with exciting new features!

This is a new major release that includes many new exciting features. First, the release uses new default “Cosmic Dusk” theme that works great for the dark style desktop environment.

The new theme is more compact than the previous ‘Humanity: Dark’ (which is still available for choice) that has better support for small displays.

Darktable, the popular free open-source photography and RAW developer, released new 5.0.0 version yesterday. PPA updated for Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and Ubuntu 24.10.

Darktable 5.0.0 is a new major feature release. It now shows a splash screen at startup, including app loading process bar, which is useful for the user who has a large library. For choice, it can be disabled in the Preferences dialog, under miscellaneous tab.

For those who are waiting for the latest NVIDIA 565.77 driver package, it’s now available in PPA for Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and Ubuntu 24.10.

NVIDIA 565.77 is so far the latest feature branch version graphics driver for Linux. As Ubuntu seems to prefer the production branch version, this new driver release will be less likely (in my own opinion) to be add into official system repository.

If the new driver includes specific features and bug-fixes for your device, then you may try the “Graphics Drivers” team PPA maintained by Ubuntu Team members.

The new release package was made available on December 14. KDE.org announced it within KDE Gear 24.12, though there’s still no official release note in kdenlive website at the moment of writing.

qBittorrent, the popular free open-source Qt based BitTorrent client, released version 5.0.3 along with 5.1.0 Beta one day ago on Tuesday.

Changlog for the new 5.1.0 Beta so far is not available. But for version 5.0.3, it’s a maintenance release that includes primarily bug-fixes, improvements, and translation updates.
