Liferea (Linux Feed Reader) 1.12.6 was released day. Here’s how to install it in Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 18.10.

Liferea 1.12.6 is a new bug-fix release which resolves several usability problems.

  • Add confirmation dialog when adding duplicate subscription
  • Fix that when resuming from sleep feeds were being fetched before Wifi came up
  • Fix Headerbar plugin “Mark All Read” button is not feed-specific
  • Fix scrollbars not always present in the headline area
  • Fix that Next update overrides HTML5 enrichment
  • Fix overly wide label in enclosure preferences dialog
  • Dropped unencrypted warning from auth dialog (not true anymore)
  • Adding translatable tooltips for the headerbar plugin

How to Install Liferea 1.12.6 in Ubuntu:

For Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 18.10, and derivatives, the new release packages are available in an unofficial PPA repository.

1. Open terminal either via Ctrl+Alt+T or by searching for ‘terminal’ from app launcher. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps

Type your password (no asterisks feedback while typing) when it prompts and hit Enter.

2. Then upgrade Liferea via Software Updater utility:

or run commands one by one to install the Linux feed reader:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install liferea

Finally launch the news reader from your application launcher and enjoy! (Log out and log back if you don’t see the icon).

Uninstall Liferea:

As the PPA also contains many other software packages, you may remove it by launching Software & Updates and navigating to Other Software tab.

If you want to remove the Liferea news reader software, either use your system package manager or run command in terminal:

sudo apt-get remove --autoremove liferea liferea-data

Liferea (Linux Feed Reader) 1.12.4 was released a day ago. The new release brings smaller bug and security fixes.

Changes in Liferea 1.12.4 include:

  • Add installable plugin to change accels
  • Fix segfault on date out of range
  • Fix Free Music Archive link in default OPMLs
  • Switch from persistent to session-only cookies
  • Fix unread count of vfolder
  • Add etra keywords in .desktop file (syndication; rss; atom)
  • Fix updating counters for remote sources
  • Updated cookie usage hint in FAQ

How to Install Liferea 1.12.4 in Ubuntu:

For Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 18.04, Linux Mint 19, 18.x, the new release is available in a third-party PPA repository.

Liferea Feed Reader 1.12.1 Released with Some Fixes

The Liferea feed reader reached the 1.12.1 release earlier today with some bug-fixes. Here’s how to install it in Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu 17.10, Ubuntu 18.04.

Changes in Liferea 1.12.1 include:

  • Fix typo in debug message
  • Add patch: appstream data has new format
  • Fix that Liferea doesn’t remember the feeds’ custom settings
  • Fix assertions/crashes on changing view layouts
  • Workaround to avoid GtkPaned shrinking
  • Added Indonesian default feed list
  • And some translation updates.

How to Install Liferea 1.12.1 in Ubuntu:

For Ubuntu 16.04 and higher, you can easily install the new release from this PPA repository.

The last release 1.10.12 fixed below bugs:

  • Support HTTP content negotiation (suggested by DanMan)
  • Problems with dark Adwaita theme in GTK 3.14

Install or Upgrade Liferea in Ubuntu:

The latest packages have been made into PPA, available for Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 and their derivatives such as Linux Mint 13 / 17, Elementary OS Luna.

To add the PPA, press Ctrl+Alt+T to open terminal. When it opens, paste the command below and hit run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps

Type in user password when it asks – no visual feed back – and finally install or upgrade the RSS reader via command:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install liferea

After that you can receive future updates from the PPA by running regular updates via Software Updater.

Liferea, a free RSS feed reader and news aggregator, gets a new release. PPA has been updated with the latest packages, available for Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic, Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 12.04.

Liferea, stands for Linux Feed Reader, is a native app for Linux desktop. Its GUI is similar to a desktop mail/newsclient, with an embedded graphical browser. It’s able to play audio & video feeds with plugins.

The latest version 1.10.11 was released a few hours ago with bug fixes and translation updates:

  • Fixed: Doesn’t automatically update feed name and favicon for new feed (reported by asl97)
  • Fixed: Missing dist files for documentation (patch by Mikel Olasagasti)
  • Fixed Javascript links not opening in new browser tabs
  • Updated French translation (Guillaume Bernard)
  • Updated Hebrew translation (Genghis Khan)

How to Install Liferea in Ubuntu:

Liferea is available in Ubuntu Software Center by default, but it’s always old. I have create a Ubuntu PPA and keep uploading the latest packages for all current support Ubuntu releases.

Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, paste the commands below and run one by one:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install liferea

The above will add the PPA repository and install the latest liferea packages in your system.

Once installed, open the feed reader from Unity dash or application menu and enjoy!

Liferea 1.11.0, the first release of the new unstable release line, has been released with experimental InoReader and Reedah support.

Liferea is an open source feed reader and news aggregator with an embedded graphical browser (supports playing video, audio). It’s a Linux native app comes with below distinguishing Features:

  • Read articles when offline.

According to the release note, the latest 1.11.0 also added tray icon plugin (removed build in tray icon support), category/folder support for TheOldReader, folder auto-removal for TinyTinyRSS & TheOldReader. And support for libindicate and libnotify has been removed (to be added as plugin maybe).

The new release has fixed below bugs:

  • Mistakenly claims “TinyTinyRSS source is not self-updating”
  • Crash on font resize at startup.
  • Honor preferences when opening links
  • Selecting last unread item in reduced feed list jumps to next feed
  • Fixed missing “Via” metadata type
  • Fixed incorrect new count reset handling in item_state.c and some of the node source implementations.
  • missing installation of liferea.convert file
  • liferea-add-feed doesn’t process feed:https//
  • startup race with LifereaHtmlView
  • Parsing errors not visible with dark themes
  • Do not use bold text for feeds/folders with unread items in the leftmost treeview
  • Liferea does not update feeds with TinyTinyRSS
  • subscription prop/source: not all fields and buttons visible
  • RTL comments appear incorrectly
  • Images do not autosize to fit the available space
  • Add TinyTinyRSS Enclosure Support
  • “Any of the following” search condition doesn’t work
  • Some dialogs scrolling areas do not request enough height
  • Doesn’t automatically update feed name and favicon for new feed
  • Update to new libxml2 buffer API
  • Avoid copying list in itemset_merge_items
  • Make Liferea use ETags and send If-None-Match
  • Support NOCONFIGURE for RPM builds

Known Bugs:

issue #48: Need to start Liferea twice simultaneously before it shows the window.

Install Liferea 1.11.0 in Ubuntu:

As an unstable release line it might have bugs. I’ve uploaded it into a new PPA, available for Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 12.04.

To add the PPA, press Ctrl+Alt+T to open the terminal and run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/liferea-unstable

If you want the latest stable release (1.10.10 so far), remove the previous PPA by running above command with parameter -r and then add the below one:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps

After added an appropriate PPA, install or upgrade Liferea via Synaptic or Software Updater after checking for updates. Or just run below commands one by one:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install liferea

(Optional) To purge the PPA as well as downgrade Liferea, run:

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge

sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/liferea-unstable

Liferea, Linux Feed Reader has just released a new version 1.10.5 with a few bug fixes. Let’s see what’s new and how to install / upgrade it in Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.04 and Linux Mint.

As you may know, Liferea is a news aggregator for GNOME desktop that aims to be fast, easy to use, and easy to install. It supports the major feed formats including RSS/RDF and Atom and can import and export subscription lists in OPML format.

Liferea 1.10.5 brings below bug fixes:

  • Fixed Honor preferences when opening links
  • Fixed missing installation of liferea.convert file
  • Fixed Redhat popup notification only for new items

I’ve updated this build into Launchpad PPA, so we can just run below commands one by one in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) to install/upgrade it in Ubuntu:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install liferea

You can also build it from source tarball.

How to Install Liferea in Ubuntu:

Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run below commands one by one to install the app from PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install liferea

If you don’t like the PPAs, download the .deb packages from launchpad page. Works in Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.04 and Linux Mint.

You can also build liferea from source tarball, below dependencies need to be installed on your system.
