Great site! I just recently found you and your content is exactly the kind of stuff I enjoy reading. I find it hard to believe that English isn’t your primary language! Keep up the great work.
Hi,
i am using ubuntu 14.40 LTS and here i am finding that Burn feature of compiz tool is not working..
please share the ways to enable burning and other effects on is by installing “additional add on”.
I recently upgraded to Vivid Vervet 15.04, and although it was a little bumpy with some drivers, its running well and I like it. But as far as the printer goes, all hell broke lose and it was unusable. But thanks to the guide on here, all is well, thanks!
Just extract the .zip file and run the script after giving executable permission. I’ll write about this later and here’s the brief howto:
1. Download the .zip file and extract the package in your Downloads folder. You’ll get a new folder with the script (kernel upgrade) in it.
2. open TERMINAL from Dash, Launcher, or via Ctrl+Alt+T. Navigate to that folder via:
cd ~/Downloads/FOLDERNAME
For me, the folder is 8493727-4b7f00f2a6b7b740910b6cc4800f4607aae4174a. You can simply type 84937 and followed with TAB key to auto-complete the full name.
3. After you get into that folder in terminal, run command to give executable permission:
Thank you for posting the reply. Since many wanted to install the latest Stable LTS kernel for Ubuntu, this guide would be helpful for auto install with option dialog.
1. How about completely removing the installed script without traces when not needed?
2. How to remove the old kernel post installation of new kernel?
3. How to roll back to old default kernel when there is trouble with new kernel?
Since none have posted online about complete installation, removal, rollback for this script, if you could write a new topic ASAP on the above with the answers to these 3 queries, it’d be a complete guide for the Ubuntu kernel upgrader script.
1. There’s no “installed” script, just like an image, video, or audio file in your user folder, you can remove the script file any time when you don’t want it.

hello guys,
i need very urgent help i have brought new lenovo laptop ideapad 300 and i have install ubuntu operating system but i am unable to use my wifii signal so please help how i will do solve this problem.
Please ji m I installed ubuntu recently to run side by side with my windows8 but each time I start my computer it boots straight to Windows except I press esc and f9 to boot ubuntu. Please how do I make it boot ubuntu as the default
Windows 8 and up should have a fast/quick boot mode in the Power Settings of the Control Panel, you may need to click a link that says “Change what the power buttons do” to turn it off. Apparently this setting can sometimes ruin the boot order. Have you double-checked such an order in the BIOS/UEFI of your computer before booting into Ubuntu?
Some guides just recommend simply reformatting the entire hard drive and installing Ubuntu as the only operating system on the computer, which is unfortunately what I had to do when I had the same problem as you are having now when trying to dual boot on my laptop. In my experience, knowing I can simply reinstall Ubuntu via CD for when ever there is a serious problem with my computer is easier than remembering to create Windows backups and to try to fumble through their recovery process. “Wine” is a compatibility layer for Linux that simulates the Windows OS and would allow you to run any Windows programs or games you wanted.
how do i change the mac address of my 16.04 LTS Kubuntu system when I use macchanger it changes it but when i connect to the router it reverts back to the device burned in mac address. How do I fix that.
Please email me the fix.tired of using tails linux dont like gnome3. There is minimal help about this specific issue on the web with kubuntu 16.04 lts.
15 minutes on your website and I do believe I have found a new home.
After 33 years of supporting Windows products for a living I recently retired. My son handed me a laptop with Ubuntu installed on it, gave me the root password and said. “So you don’t get bored.”
This is either going to make me very old or keep me sharp mentally. Now that I have found your website I believe it will be the latter.
You can do it completely free & really easily.. Just open a Cloudflare free account & then install the Cloudflare Flexible SSL on WordPress & you’re good to go. Cloudflare will serve most of your content so you will save massively on bandwidth to boot & all for free!
I would like to discuss the issue of cooperation with you. Interested in placing a banner on Your site on a permanent basis. The banner theme is mobile phones and gadgets. We work on an advance payment.
I will wait for Your response to my email. mail. Sincerely, Anna.
Must have happened yesterday (at least my feed reader reports errors fetching the feed starting yesterday around noon). You might want to fix that? :-)
And well, yes, I know, RSS is kinda “oldschool”, but I’d really appreciate to have a working RSS feed back.
Thanks.
i am using ubuntu too.
i can’t save brightness setting in my system.
can i contact in other means?
Hi ,
Just in case this is not to late , there is a workaround for brightness settings.
1. Find your video card :
find / -name brightness
For me its
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-eDP-1/intel_backlight/brightness
2. Adjust your preferred brightness level and check the value :
cat /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-eDP-1/intel_backlight/brightness
3. In
/etc/rc.local
just add :echo YOUR_VALUE > /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-eDP-1/intel_backlight/brightness
Brightness setting will be forced at next reboot.

Andrei

In your guide to install Skype, you delete all the files etc. on my laptop. Would you be so kind as to put something up how to fix it?
Hi,
In Ubuntu, how to run [https://gist.github.com/mmstick/8493727] which downloaded as zip file?
Pls write a detailed thread on this as many are willing to use this script.

Hi, I’m sure that you have read news on newly updated Ubuntu Internet Browser. I have some queries.
The desktop Ubuntu Web Browser is based on WebKit. However, Ubuntu Internet Browser is based on Oxide which is a Chromium[WebKit].
Can you confirm whether Ubuntu Web Browser and Ubuntu Internet Browser are based on Chromium just like Opera?

It’s a rare pleasure to find instructions as precise and comprehensive.
Thank you VERY MUCH!
Hi Jim,
It seems quite hard to reach out to you now since Google+ is shut down, and this is the only contact method you have listed here.
I have a tip for you as a part of the software developer team. Would be glad to get you some news!
Please make ubuntuhandbook.org available over https since we have 2019 and should not provide http anymore.
I’m thinking about moving to https for a period of time. No decision so far due to lack of time and possible risks after the switch.
