This tutorial shows you how to install ClipGrab video downloader and converter on Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, and Linux Mint 20/21 via PPA.

ClipGrab is a free downloader and converter for YouTube, Vimeo, Metacafe, Dailymotion and many other online video sites. It converts downloaded videos to MPEG4, MP3 or other formats in just one easy step.

It supports HTTP and Socks5 proxy.

ClipGrab has an official PPA which is however no longer updated for very long time. For the all current Ubuntu releases on amd64(Intel/AMD) and arm64/armhf, there’s an unofficial PPA available for choice.

To install this utility, press Ctrl+Alt+T to open terminal, then follow the below steps:

1.) Run this command to add the ppa repository to your system:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xtradeb/apps

2.) Then update the package cache by running command:

sudo apt update

3.) Finally install it via:

sudo apt install clipgrab

The ClipGrab website also provides non-install version for Linux, just download, extract and make it executable in file’s Properties, finally click to run.

Uninstall ClipGrab

To uninstall ClipGrab, use command:

sudo apt remove --autoremove clipgrab

Also remove the Ubuntu PPA by running command:

sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:xtradeb/apps

UPDATE 2024: Nightingale discontinued! Try Clementine Music Player which is available to install in App Center or Ubuntu Software.

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to install the Nightingale Music Player on Ubuntu 13.04, 12.10, 12.04 and Linux Mint 15, 14, 13 via ppa repository.

As such, Nightingale’s engine is based on the Mozilla XULRunner with libraries such as the GStreamer media framework and libtag providing media tagging and playback support, amongst others. Since official support for Linux was dropped by Songbird in April, 2010, Linux-using members of the Songbird community diverged and created the project.

To install it, press Ctrl+Alt+T to open terminal, then follow the below steps:

1.) Copy and paste this command, then run in terminal to add the ppa repository:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nightingaleteam/nightingale-release

2.) If you’ve already installed Synaptic Package Manager, open it and click Reload button. Search for and install the nightingale package:

If not, run the below command instead:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install nightingale

UPDATE: To uninstall the software, also use Synaptic Package Manager, or run following commands in terminal:

sudo apt-get remove nightingale && sudo apt-get autoremove

The PPA can be removed via Software & Updates utility via Other Software tab.

This brief tutorial shows how to install BlueGriffon WYSIWYG editor on Ubuntu 13.04, 12.04, 12.10, Linux Mint using the GetDeb repository.

BlueGriffon is a new WYSIWYG content editor for the World Wide Web. Powered by Gecko, the rendering engine of Firefox, it’s a modern and robust solution to edit Web pages in conformance to the latest Web Standards.

The GetDeb repository contains the latest packages for Ubuntu 13.04 Raring, 12.04 Precise, and old versions for Ubuntu 12.10, 11.10, 11.04 and 10.04.

To get started, follow the below steps:

1.) Download the getdeb package and double-click to install. It adds the repository to your system.

2.) If you installed Synaptic Package Manager, open it, click Reload button and search for and install BlueGriffon package.

If not, run below 2 commands instead:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install bluegriffon

Install Desura Gaming Client on Ubuntu 14.04

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to install Desura client (Desurium) on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail and Linux Mint from ppa repository.

Desura is a gaming client that allows users to one click download and install games and game modification. Desurium is the open-source client of Desura.

A ppa repository has been built for Ubuntu and Linux Mint users to make it easy to install. So far, it supports Ubuntu 13.04, 12.10, 12.04 and Linux Mint 15, 14, 13.

To get started:

NOTE: This PPA support ended for Ubuntu 14.04

Press Ctrl+Alt+T to open terminal, then follow the steps below:

1.) Copy and paste this command and run to add the ppa repository:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96/desurium

2.) Update:

sudo apt-get update

3.) Install the client:

sudo apt-get install desurium

Once installed, open it from Unity Dash. Then you need register a free account to login.
